English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Bakr ibn 'Amr ibn Hazm that a woman from the Muharib tribe gifted the walaa' of her freed slave to the slave himself, then freed him. The slave then gifted his own walaa' to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Amr ibn Hazm. After she died, a dispute was brought to 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). 'Uthman called for witnesses to prove the claim, and when witnesses came forward, he told the freed slave: "Go and take as patron whoever you wish." He chose 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Amr ibn Hazm.
