حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَوْلَى آلِ طَلْحَةَ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ اسْمُ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَرَّةَ فَحَوَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْمَهَا فَسَمَّاهَا جُوَيْرِيَةَ
English Translation
Abu 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, al-Mas'udi narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, freed slave of the family of Talhah, narrated to us, from Kurayb, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما). The name of Juwayriyah bint al-Harith was Barrah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed it to Juwayriyah, because he disliked that it be said: 'He departed from Barrah's (piety's) house.'
