حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي رَمَضَانَ حِينَ فَتَحَ مَكَّةَ فَصَامَ حَتَّى أَتَى عُسْفَانَ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِعُسٍّ مِنْ شَرَابٍ أَوْ إِنَاءٍ فَشَرِبَ فَكَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ مَنْ شَاءَ صَامَ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَفْطَرَ
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mujahid — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed Madinah in Ramadan [heading for] the conquest of Makkah. He fasted until he reached 'Usfan, then called for a large cup of drink and drank [breaking his fast]. Ibn 'Abbas used to say [from this]: 'Whoever wishes may fast and whoever wishes may break his fast [when travelling in Ramadan].'
