حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ تَرَاءَيْنَا هِلَالَ
رَمَضَانَ بِذَاتِ عِرْقٍ فَأَرْسَلْنَا رَجُلًا إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَدَّهُ إِلَى رُؤْيَتِهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu al-Bakhtari — that he said: 'We looked for the crescent of Ramadan at Dhat 'Irq. We sent a man to Ibn 'Abbas to ask him. He asked him and [Ibn 'Abbas] said: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ extended it [the fasting] until its [the moon's] sighting."' [i.e., Ramadan is tied to the sighting of the new crescent]
