English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Kurayb — that he said: 'I spent the night at my maternal aunt Maymunah. I said [to myself]: 'I will observe the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' A pillow was laid out for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he slept along its length, as did his family. Then he rose at midnight — or before or after it — and began to wipe sleep from his face. He then recited the last ten verses of [Surah] Al 'Imran to completion. He rose and went to a suspended water-skin, took from it, and performed wudu. He then stood and prayed. I got up and did as he had done, then came and stood beside him. He placed his hand on my head, then took hold of my ear and began to twist it. He then prayed two rak'ahs, then two, then two, then two, then two, then two, then he prayed witr.'
