English Translation

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, from Ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to Caesar (the Roman Emperor), inviting him to Islam. He sent his letter with Dihyah al-Kalbi to deliver to the governor of Busra, who forwarded it to Caesar. Caesar then asked for any Arabs in the vicinity, and Abu Sufyan was brought to him. Caesar questioned him about the Prophet ﷺ — his lineage, followers, character, and message — and Abu Sufyan answered truthfully.
