حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحَوْلَ الْكَعْبَةِ سِتُّونَ وَثَلَاثُ مِائَةِ نُصُبٍ فَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُهَا بِعُودٍ كَانَ بِيَدِهِ وَيَقُولُ { جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَمَا يُبْدِئُ الْبَاطِلُ وَمَا يُعِيدُ } { جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا }
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, from Abi Ma'mar — that 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'the Prophet ﷺ entered [Makkah on the Day of Conquest] while around the Ka'bah were three hundred and sixty idols. He began to strike them with a stick that was in his hand, saying: Truth has come and falsehood neither begins anything nor brings it back [17:81]; Truth has come and falsehood has perished — indeed falsehood is ever perishing [17:81].'
