Hadith #188
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ قَسْمًا قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ إِنَّ هَذِهِ لَقِسْمَةٌ مَا أُرِيدَ بِهَا وَجْهُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ فَقُل
ْتُ يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ أَمَا لَأُخْبِرَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَا قُلْتَ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاحْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى مُوسَى لَقَدْ أُوذِيَ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ هَذَا فَصَبَرَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a distribution one day. A man from the Ansar said: This is a distribution that was not intended for the face of Allah (عز وجل). I said: O enemy of Allah, I will certainly inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what you said. He [Ibn Mas'ud] mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ and his face turned red. Then he said: May Allah have mercy on Musa — he was harmed with more than this yet he remained patient.'
