حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّكُمْ مَالُ و
َارِثِهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِهِ قَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا مَالُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِ وَارِثِهِ قَالَ اعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا مَالُ وَارِثِهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِهِ مَا لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدَّمْتَ وَمَالُ وَارِثِكِ مَا أَخَّرْتَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim al-Tayymi, from al-Harith ibn Suwayd — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Which of you loves the wealth of his heir more than his own wealth? They said: O Messenger of Allah, there is not one of us who does not love his own wealth more than his heir's wealth. He said: Know then that not one of you exists except that he loves his heir's wealth more than his own. Of your wealth, what is yours is only what you have sent ahead [in charity]; what belongs to your heir is what you leave behind.'
