English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hajjaj, from Sharik, from al-Rukayn ibn al-Rabi', from al-Qasim ibn Hassan — that 'Abdullah narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'Horses are of three kinds: a horse for the All-Merciful, a horse for a person, and a horse for Shaytan. As for the horse of the All-Merciful — it is the one tethered in the way of Allah; its fodder, its dung, and its urine [are all a source of reward] — and [Allah gives] whatever He wills [beyond that]. As for the horse of Shaytan — it is the one raced or wagered upon. As for the horse of the person — it is the horse a person ties up in seeking [lawful] provision from it, and it protects him from poverty.' — [Another chain] via Mu'awiya ibn 'Amr, from Za'ida, from al-Rukayn, from Abi 'Amr al-Shaybani, from a man of the Ansar, from the Prophet ﷺ: 'Horses are of three kinds' — then he mentioned the hadith.
