حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ وَابْنُ بَكْرٍ قَالَا أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ أَيُّ حِينٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ الْعِشَاءَ إِمَامًا أَوْ خِلْوًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً بِالْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى رَقَدَ النَّاسُ وَاسْتَيْقَظُوا وَرَقَدُوا وَاسْتَيْقَظُوا فَقَامَ
عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ عَطَاءٌ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَخَرَجَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ الْآنَ يَقْطُرُ رَأْسُهُ مَاءً وَاضِعٌ يَدَهُ عَلَى شَقِّ رَأْسِهِ فَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ أَنْ يُصَلُّوهَا كَذَلِكَ

ابن عباس يقول أعتم رسول الله
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Ata' — that Ibn 'Abbas said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ once delayed 'Isha' until the people fell asleep, woke up, fell asleep again, and woke up again. Then 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) stood and said: [Time for] prayer. Ibn 'Abbas said: the Prophet ﷺ of Allah (ﷺ) came out — and it is as if I can see him now — with water dripping from his hair and his hand placed on the side of his head — and said: Were it not that I would cause hardship for my ummah, I would command them to pray [Isha'] at this time.'
