English Translation
Asbat and Ibn Fudayl — with the same meaning — both said: Mutarrif narrated to us, from Abu al-Jahm, from Abu al-Radrad, from Ibn Mas'ud who said: 'I used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while he was in prayer, and he would return the greeting. Then when we came back from the land of the Negus (Abyssinia), I greeted him while he was praying and he did not return it. I said: O Messenger of Allah, I used to greet you in prayer and you would return it. He said: Indeed, in the prayer there is preoccupation (sufficient engagement).'
