حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ قَالَ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَعِنْدَهُ عَلْقَمَةُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ فَحَدَّثَ حَدِيثًا لَا أُرَاهُ حَ
دَّثَهُ إِلَّا مِنْ أَجْلِي كُنْتُ أَحْدَثَ الْقَوْمِ سِنًّا قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَبَابٌ لَا نَجِدُ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash, from 'Umara ibn 'Umayr, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid — that he said: 'We entered upon 'Abdullah, and with him were 'Alqama and al-Aswad. He narrated a hadith — I think he narrated it on my account as I was the youngest of the group. He said: We were young men with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having nothing. He said: O young men, whoever among you is able [to afford] marriage, let him marry — for it lowers the gaze more and guards the private parts better. And whoever cannot, let him fast, for it is a restraint [wija'] for him.'
