Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ فَسَج
َدَ فِيهَا وَمَنْ مَعَهُ إِلَّا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ أَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ حَصًى أَوْ تُرَابٍ فَقَالَ بِهِ هَكَذَا وَضَعَهُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ قَالَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ قُتِلَ كَافِرًا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Shu'ba — Abu Ishaq narrated to me from al-Aswad, from 'Abdullah — that the Prophet ﷺ recited [Surah] al-Najm [53] and prostrated in it, as did all those with him — except for an elderly man who took a handful of pebbles or dust and placed it on his forehead [instead of prostrating]. [Ibn Mas'ud] said: 'I later saw him killed as an unbeliever.'
