‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَا أَحَدٌ ‏ ‏أَغْيَرَ مِنْ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلِذَلِكَ حَرَّمَ ‏ ‏الْفَوَاحِشَ ‏ ‏وَمَا أَحَدٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ الْمَدْحُ مِنْ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'None is more jealously protective of His honor than Allah (عز وجل), and for that reason He has forbidden all indecencies. And none loves to be praised more than Allah (عز وجل).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏دَخَلْتُ أَنَا ‏ ‏وَعَلْقَمَةُ ‏ ‏عَلَى ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِذَا رَكَعَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُفْرِشْ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَخِذَيْهِ فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي الصَّلَاةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad — that he said: 'I and 'Alqama entered upon 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud. He said: When one of you bows [in ruku'], let him lay his forearms upon his thighs [tatbiq]. It is as if I can see the interlacing of the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the prayer.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْد اللَّهِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى صَلَاةً قَطُّ إِلَّا لِمِيقَاتِهَا إِلَّا صَلَاتَيْنِ صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَصَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ ‏ ‏بِجَمْعٍ ‏ ‏وَصَلَّى الْفَجْرَ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَبْلَ مِيقَاتِهَا ‏ ‏و قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏الْعِشَاءَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُ صَلَّاهُمَا ‏ ‏بِجَمْعٍ ‏ ‏جَمِيعًا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya and Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash, from 'Umara, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid — that 'Abdullah said: 'I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray any prayer except at its proper time — except two prayers: Maghrib and 'Isha' at Muzdalifa [Jam']; and he prayed Fajr on that day before its proper time.' Ibn Numayr said: [except] the two 'Isha' prayers — for he prayed them both at Muzdalifa combined.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ مُسْتَتِرًا بِأَسْتَارِ ‏ ‏الْكَعْبَةِ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَجَاءَ ثَلَاثَةُ ‏ ‏نَفَرٍ ‏ ‏كَثِيرٌ شَحْمُ بُطُونِهِمْ قَلِيلٌ فِقْهُ قُلُوبِهِمْ ‏ ‏قُرَشِيٌّ ‏ ‏وَخَتَنَاهُ ‏ ‏ثَقَفِيَّانِ ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏ثَقَفِيٌّ ‏ ‏وَخَتَنَاهُ ‏ ‏قُرَشِيَّانِ ‏ ‏فَتَكَلَّمُوا بِكَلَامٍ لَمْ أَفْهَمْهُ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَتَرَوْنَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَسْمَعُ كَلَامَنَا هَذَا فَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ إِنَّا إِذَا رَفَعْنَا أَصْوَاتَنَا سَمِعَهُ وَإِذَا لَمْ نَرْفَعْ أَصْوَاتَنَا لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ قَالَ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ إِنْ سَمِعَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا سَمِعَهُ كُلَّهُ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏ { ‏وَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَتِرُونَ أَنْ يَشْهَدَ عَلَيْكُمْ سَمْعُكُمْ وَلَا أَبْصَارُكُمْ ‏ ‏إِلَى قَوْلِهِ ‏ ‏وَذَلِكُمْ ظَنُّكُمْ الَّذِي ظَنَنْتُمْ بِرَبِّكُمْ أَرْدَاكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُمْ مِنْ الْخَاسِرِينَ ‏}

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from 'Umara, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid — that 'Abdullah said: 'I was hidden behind the curtains of the Ka'ba when three men came — large of belly, little of understanding: one was a Qurayshi and his two brothers-in-law were Thaqafis — or one was a Thaqafi and his two brothers-in-law were Qurayshis. They spoke words I did not understand. One of them said: Do you think Allah (عز وجل) hears this talk of ours? The other two said: When we raise our voices He hears; when we do not raise our voices He does not hear. The third said: If He hears any part of it, He hears all of it. I mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and Allah (عز وجل) revealed: 'And you were not concealing yourselves, lest your hearing and your sight and your skins should testify against you...' to His words: '...and that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord; it ruined you, and you became among the losers' [41:22-23].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شِمْرِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُغِيرَةَ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ الْأَخْرَمِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا تَتَّخِذُوا ‏ ‏الضَّيْعَةَ ‏ ‏فَتَرْغَبُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏وَبِرَاذَانَ ‏ ‏مَا ‏ ‏بِرَاذَانَ ‏ ‏وَبِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏مَا ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shimr ibn 'Atiyya, from Mughira ibn Sa'd ibn al-Akhram, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not acquire estates [al-day'a] lest you become attached to this world.' Then 'Abdullah said: 'And [look at what has become of] Razan [a fertile district of Iraq] — what [a place] Razan is! And al-Madina — what [a place] al-Madina is!'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏الْأَشْعَثُ ‏ ‏فِيَّ وَاللَّهِ كَانَ ذَاكَ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْيَهُودِ ‏ ‏أَرْضٌ ‏ ‏فَجَحَدَنِي ‏ ‏فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَلَكَ ‏ ‏بَيِّنَةٌ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ لَا فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ احْلِفْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ فَيَذْهَبَ مَالِي فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏ { ‏إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ ‏ ‏بِعَهْدِ ‏ ‏اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ‏} ‏إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever swears an oath to seize the property of a Muslim unjustly will meet Allah (عز وجل) while He is angry with him.' Al-Ash'ath said: 'By Allah, that [hadith] is about me! There was a dispute between me and a man from the Jews over a piece of land. He denied [my right], so I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Do you have a witness? I said: No. He said to the Jew: Swear an oath. I said: O Messenger of Allah, then he will swear and take my property! So Allah (عز وجل) revealed: Indeed those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price...' [3:77] to the end of the verse.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏وَوَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَسْرُوقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ مِنْ أَشَدِّ أَهْلِ النَّارِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرِينَ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏أَشَدِّ النَّاسِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya and Waki', from al-A'mash, from Muslim ibn Subayh, from Masruq — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Among those who will face the most severe punishment in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection are the image-makers [al-musawwirun].' Waki' said in his narration: 'the most severe of people [in punishment].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْحَجَّاجُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏حَمَّادٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏يَنَامُ مُسْتَلْقِيًا حَتَّى يَنْفُخَ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَاه ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَذَكَرَهُ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-Hajjaj, from Hammad, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sleep on his back until he snored, then rise and pray without performing ablution. — [A second chain] via Isma'il ibn Muhammad, from Yahya ibn Zakariyya, from Hajjaj, from Fudayl, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama, from 'Abdullah — from the Prophet ﷺ — the same account.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِحَاجَةٍ لَهُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏ائْتِنِي بِشَيْءٍ ‏ ‏أَسْتَنْجِي بِهِ وَلَا تُقْرِبْنِي حَائِلًا وَلَا رَجِيعًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى فَحَنَا ثُمَّ طَبَّقَ يَدَيْهِ حِينَ رَكَعَ وَجَعَلَهُمَا بَيْنَ فَخِذَيْهِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Fudayl, from Layth, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from his father — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Prophet ﷺ went out to relieve himself and said: Bring me something to clean myself with — and do not bring me anything dried [ha'il] or dung [raji']. Then I brought him water and he performed ablution, then stood and prayed. He bowed [in ruku'], then performed tatbiq [pressing his hands together], placing them between his thighs when he bowed.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏زُهَيْرٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي رَجُلٍ نَسْتَأْذِنُهُ أَنْ نَكْوِيَهُ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْنَاهُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْنَاهُ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏ارْضِفُوهُ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ كَأَنَّهُ غَضْبَانُ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Sulayman ibn Dawud, from Zuhayr, from Abi Ishaq, from Abi al-Ahwas — that 'Abdullah said: 'We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [to ask] about a man and sought his permission to cauterize him. He was silent. We asked him again and he was silent. We asked him a third time and he said: Apply heated stones to him if you wish — as though he were displeased [ghadban].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏زُهَيْرٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏وَالْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَنَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يُكَبِّرُ فِي كُلِّ رَفْعٍ وَوَضْعٍ وَقِيَامٍ وَقُعُودٍ وَيُسَلِّمُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ جَانِبُ خَدِّهِ وَرَأَيْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏وَعُمَرَ ‏ ‏يَفْعَلَانِ ذَلِكَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Sulayman ibn Dawud, from Zuhayr, from Abi Ishaq, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from 'Alqama and al-Aswad — that 'Abdullah said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say the takbir at every rising and lowering, standing and sitting, and give the salam to his right and to his left: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah; peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah — until the whiteness of his cheek became visible. And I saw Abu Bakr and 'Umar doing the same.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏زُهَيْرٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَيْسَ ‏ ‏أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ ‏ ‏ذَكَرَهُ وَلَكِنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَتَى الْخَلَاءَ وَقَالَ ‏ ‏ائْتِنِي بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ فَالْتَمَسْتُ فَوَجَدْتُ حَجَرَيْنِ وَلَمْ أَجِدْ الثَّالِثَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَرَوْثَةٍ ‏ ‏فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى ‏ ‏الرَّوْثَةَ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ إِنَّهَا ‏ ‏رِكْسٌ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Sulayman ibn Dawud, from Zuhayr, from Abi Ishaq — [Abu Ishaq] said: It was not Abu 'Ubayda who mentioned it, but 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to relieve himself and said: Bring me three stones. I searched and found two stones but could not find the third, so I brought him two stones and a piece of dung. He took the two stones, threw away the dung, and said: This is filth [riks].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏بَهْزٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَاصِمُ بْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏غَنَائِمَ ‏ ‏حُنَيْنٍ ‏ ‏بِالْجِعِرَّانَةِ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَازْدَحَمُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَكَذَّبُوهُ ‏ ‏وَشَجُّوهُ ‏ ‏فَجَعَلَ يَمْسَحُ الدَّمَ عَنْ جَبِينِهِ وَيَقُولُ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَمْسَحُ جَبْهَتَهُ يَحْكِي الرَّجُلَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Bahz, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from 'Asim ibn Bahdala, from Abi Wa'il — that 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the spoils of Hunayn at al-Ji'irrana. The people crowded around him. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: A servant from the servants of Allah — Allah (عز وجل) sent him to his people. They denied him and gashed his head. He began wiping the blood from his forehead and saying: O Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know. 'Abdullah said: It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping his own forehead, reenacting the man's action.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ‏ ‏وَيَزِيدُ ‏ ‏قَالَا أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ لَا أُحْبَسُ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ‏ ‏فَنَسِيَ ‏ ‏عَمْرٌو ‏ ‏وَاحِدَةً وَنَسِيتُ أَنَا أُخْرَى وَبَقِيَتْ هَذِهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏النَّجْوَى ‏ ‏عَنْ كَذَا وَعَنْ كَذَا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَعِنْدَهُ ‏ ‏مَالِكُ بْنُ مُرَارَةَ الرَّهَاوِيُّ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَأَدْرَكْتُ مِنْ آخِرِ حَدِيثِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ قَدْ قُسِمَ لِي مِنْ الْجَمَالِ مَا ‏ ‏تَرَى فَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْ النَّاسِ فَضَلَنِي ‏ ‏بِشِرَاكَيْنِ ‏ ‏فَمَا فَوْقَهُمَا أَفَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْبَغْيَ قَالَ ‏ ‏لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ ‏ ‏بِالْبَغْيِ ‏ ‏وَلَكِنَّ ‏ ‏الْبَغْيَ ‏ ‏مَنْ سَفِهَ الْحَقَّ ‏ ‏أَوْ بَطِرَ الْحَقَّ ‏ ‏وَغَمَطَ ‏ ‏النَّاسَ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Abi 'Adiyy and Yazid, from Ibn 'Awn, from 'Amr ibn Sa'id, from Humayd ibn 'Abd al-Rahman — that Ibn Mas'ud said: 'I was never kept from [attending] three [kinds of gatherings].' Ibn 'Awn said: ''Amr forgot one of them, and I forgot another; and this one remained: [being kept from private conversation, and from such-and-such, and from such-and-such].' He [the narrator] said: I came to him while Malik ibn Murara al-Rahawi was with him. I caught the end of his speech — he was saying: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a man who has been given beauty, as you see, and I would not like anyone to surpass me even by two sandal straps or more — is that not arrogance [kibr]?' He [the Prophet ﷺ] said: 'That is not arrogance. Rather, arrogance is one who rejects the truth — or he said: treats the truth with contempt — and looks down on people.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ذُكِرَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏رَجُلٌ نَامَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ قَالَ ‏ ‏ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ بَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أُذُنِهِ ‏ ‏أَوْ أُذُنَيْهِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Jarir, from Mansur, from Abi Wa'il — that 'Abdullah said: 'A man was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who had slept all night until morning [without rising to pray]. He said: That is a man in whose ear — or ears — the devil has urinated.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏مِمَّا يُذَكِّرُ كُلَّ يَوْمِ الْخَمِيسِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ لَوَدِدْنَا أَنَّكَ ذَكَّرْتَنَا كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُمِلَّكُمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏يَتَخَوَّلُنَا ‏ ‏بِالْمَوْعِظَةِ كَرَاهِيَةَ ‏ ‏السَّآمَةِ ‏ ‏عَلَيْنَا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Jarir, from Mansur, from Abi Wa'il — that 'Abdullah used to give admonition every Thursday. It was said to him: 'We wish you would give us admonition every day.' He said: 'I dislike to weary you. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to attend to us with admonition at intervals, out of dislike for wearying us.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏لَيْثٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ مَعَ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى ‏ ‏جَمْرَةِ الْعَقَبَةِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ نَاوِلْنِي أَحْجَارًا قَالَ فَنَاوَلْتُهُ سَبْعَةَ أَحْجَارٍ فَقَالَ لِي خُذْ ‏ ‏بِزِمَامِ ‏ ‏النَّاقَةِ قَالَ ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَيْهَا فَرَمَى بِهَا مِنْ ‏ ‏بَطْنِ الْوَادِي ‏ ‏بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ وَقَالَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا وَذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا ثُمَّ قَالَ هَاهُنَا كَانَ يَقُومُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Jarir, from Layth, from Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, from his father — that he said: 'I was with 'Abdullah when we reached Jamrat al-'Aqaba. He said: Hand me stones. I handed him seven stones. He said: Hold the camel's lead-rope. Then he went to the jamra and threw it from the bottom of the valley with seven pebbles while riding, saying the takbir with each pebble, and saying: O Allah, make this a righteous Hajj and forgive [our] sins. Then he said: Here was where the one upon whom Surah al-Baqara was revealed used to stand.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏سَيَّارٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَ ‏ ‏رَجُلٌ ‏ ‏إِلَى ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَرَأْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ ‏ ‏الْمُفَصَّلَ ‏ ‏فِي رَكْعَةٍ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَثْرًا ‏ ‏كَنَثْرِ ‏ ‏الدَّقَلِ ‏ ‏وَهَذًّا ‏ ‏كَهَذِّ ‏ ‏الشِّعْرِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ ‏ ‏النَّظَائِرَ ‏ ‏الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقْرُنُ ‏ ‏بَيْنَهُنَّ سُورَتَيْنِ فِي رَكْعَةٍ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Sayyar, from Abi Wa'il — that he said: 'A man came to 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and said: Last night I read al-Mufassal in one rak'a. 'Abdullah said: [You scattered it] like scattering inferior dates [al-daqal], and [rushed through it] like rattling off poetry! I know the paired surahs [al-naza'ir] that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pair together — two surahs in one rak'a.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي غَارٍ فَأُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ ‏ ‏وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا ‏ ‏فَجَعَلْنَا ‏ ‏نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْهُ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ جَانِبِ ‏ ‏الْغَارِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏اقْتُلُوهَا فَتَبَادَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hajjaj, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that Ibn Mas'ud said: 'We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when [the surah] 'By those sent forth in waves' [al-Mursalat, 77] was revealed to him. We were receiving it from him when a snake came out from the side of the cave. He said: Kill it! We rushed toward it but it outran us. He said: It was spared your evil just as you were spared its evil.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلَ ‏ ‏السَّلَامُ عَلَى ‏ ‏مِيكَائِيلَ ‏ ‏السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ قَالَ فَسَمِعَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ ‏ ‏فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَقُلْ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدًا ‏ ‏عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ بَعْدُ مِنْ الدُّعَاءِ مَا شَاءَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq ibn Salama — that 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'When we would sit with the Prophet ﷺ in the prayer, we used to say: Peace be upon Allah before His servants; peace be upon Jibril; peace be upon Mika'il; peace be upon so-and-so; peace be upon so-and-so. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard us and said: Indeed Allah is al-Salam [the Peace]. When one of you sits in the prayer, let him say: Al-tahiyyatu lillahi wal-salawatu wal-tayyibat, al-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, al-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadi llahi al-salihin [All greetings of honor are for Allah, and all prayers and good deeds; peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah]. When he says it, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Then he may choose whatever supplication he wishes [to add after the tashahhud].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَسْرُوقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَّا بِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ ‏ ‏الثَّيِّبُ ‏ ‏الزَّانِي وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالتَّارِكُ لِدِينِهِ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from 'Abdillah ibn Murra, from Masruq — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The blood of a Muslim who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is not lawful to shed except for one of three [reasons]: the married person who commits adultery, a life for a life, and the one who abandons his religion and separates from the community.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُؤَمَّلٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ فِتَنٌ وَأُمُورٌ تُنْكِرُونَهَا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنَا قَالَ ‏ ‏تُؤَدُّونَ الْحَقَّ الَّذِي عَلَيْكُمْ وَتَسْأَلُونَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الَّذِي لَكُمْ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مُؤَمَّلٌ ‏ ‏وَجَدْتُ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مِثْلَهُ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Mu'ammal, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There will be trials and affairs that you will find detestable.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what do you command us [to do]?' He said: 'Fulfill the obligations upon you, and ask Allah (عز وجل) for that which is your due.' Mu'ammal [adds]: I found in another place [the chain]: from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from Abi Wa'il, from 'Amr ibn Shura hill, from 'Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ — the same account.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْرَائِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏وَمَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي الْغَارِ فَخَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَتَبَادَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَدَخَلَتْ الْجُحْرَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَزَادَ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏فِي الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ كُنَّا ‏ ‏نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ ‏ ‏فِيهِ وَهِيَ رَطْبَةٌ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Aswad ibn 'Amir, from Isra'il, from al-A'mash and Mansur, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that 'Abdullah said: 'We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the cave when a snake came out at us. We rushed toward it but it outran us and entered its hole. the Prophet ﷺ said: It was spared your evil just as you were spared its evil.' [The narrator] said: Al-A'mash added in his narration: 'We were receiving it [al-Mursalat] moist from his mouth.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي غَارٍ وَقَدْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ ‏ ‏وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا ‏ ‏قَالَ فَنَحْنُ نَأْخُذُهَا مِنْ ‏ ‏فِيهِ رَطْبَةً إِذْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏اقْتُلُوهَا ‏ ‏فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا ‏ ‏لِنَقْتُلَهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَقَاهَا اللَّهُ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad — that 'Abdullah said: 'We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave, and [the surah] 'By those sent forth in waves' [al-Mursalat, 77] had been revealed to him. We were receiving it fresh from his mouth when a snake came out at us. He said: Kill it! We rushed to kill it but it outran us. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah protected it from your evil just as He protected you from its evil.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْرَائِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُخَارِقٍ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏لَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏قَالَ غَيْرُهُ ‏ ‏مَشْهَدًا لَأَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عُدِلَ بِهِ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ يَدْعُو عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ ‏ ‏مُوسَى ‏ { ‏اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ ‏} ‏وَلَكِنْ نُقَاتِلُ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَمِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ ‏ ‏فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَشْرَقَ وَجْهُهُ وَسَرَّهُ ذَاكَ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Nu'aym, from Isra'il, from Mukhariq al-Ahmasi, from Tariq ibn Shihab — that he said: 'I heard Ibn Mas'ud say: I witnessed something from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad — [another narrator] said: I witnessed a scene from him — that I wish I were the one who had done it rather than anything this world could be exchanged for. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was supplicating against the polytheists and said: We will not say to you as the people of Musa said: 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight; indeed we are sitting here' [5:24]. Rather, we will fight at your right and at your left, and in front of you and behind you. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up, and he was delighted by that.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏السُّدِّيِّ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏مُرَّةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ لِي ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏وَرَفَعَهُ وَلَا أَرْفَعُهُ لَكَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏ { ‏وَمَنْ يُرِدْ فِيهِ ‏ ‏بِإِلْحَادٍ ‏ ‏بِظُلْمٍ ‏} ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا هَمَّ فِيهِ ‏ ‏بِإِلْحَادٍ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ ‏ ‏بِعَدَنِ أَبْيَنَ ‏ ‏لَأَذَاقَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid ibn Harun, from Shu'ba, from al-Suddi — who heard Murra — who heard 'Abdullah — [Shu'ba told me: he raised it as marfu', but I will not raise it for you] — regarding His (عز وجل) words: 'And whoever intends therein deviation by wrongdoing' [22:25]: 'Even if a man merely intended to commit wrongdoing therein while he was in Aden Abyan [at the far end of Yemen], Allah (عز وجل) would make him taste a painful punishment.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَابِرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ‏ ‏أَوْ الْعَصْرَ ‏ ‏خَمْسًا ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ هَذِهِ السَّجْدَتَانِ لِمَنْ ظَنَّ مِنْكُمْ أَنَّهُ زَادَ أَوْ نَقَصَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abdillah ibn al-Walid, from Sufyan, from Jabir, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from al-Aswad — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr — or 'Asr — five [rak'as], then performed two prostrations [of forgetfulness], and said: 'These two prostrations are for whoever among you thought I had added or subtracted [rak'as].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏هُزَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏الْأَشْعَرِيَّ ‏ ‏أُتِيَ فِي ابْنَةٍ وَابْنَةِ ابْنٍ وَأُخْتٍ لِأَبٍ وَأُمٍّ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ ‏ ‏لِلِابْنَةِ النِّصْفَ وَلِلْأُخْتِ مَا بَقِيَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ لِابْنَةِ ‏ ‏الِابْنِ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَأَتَوْا ‏ ‏ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَأَخْبَرُوهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذَنْ وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُهْتَدِينَ إِنْ أَخَذْتُ بِقَوْلِهِ وَتَرَكْتُ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏لِلِابْنَةِ النِّصْفُ وَلِابْنَةِ ‏ ‏الِابْنِ السُّدُسُ وَمَا بَقِيَ لِلْأُخْتِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Ibn Abi Layla, from Abi Qays, from Huzayl ibn Shura hill — that al-Ash'ari [Abu Musa] was asked about [the inheritance of] a daughter, a granddaughter [son's daughter], and a full sister. He gave the daughter a half, the full sister the remainder, and gave nothing to the granddaughter. They came to Ibn Mas'ud and told him. He said: 'I would indeed be astray and not among the guided if I took his opinion and left the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then Ibn Mas'ud said: 'The daughter gets a half, the granddaughter a sixth [completing the two-thirds share], and the sister gets the remainder.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْقُدُّوسِ بْنُ بَكْرِ بْنِ خُنَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مِسْعَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَأَنَّمَا كَانَ جُلُوسُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ عَلَى ‏ ‏الرَّضْفِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Quddus ibn Bakr ibn Khunayn, from Mis'ar, from Sa'd ibn Ibrahim, from Abi 'Ubayda — that 'Abdullah said: 'It was as if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat [between the two rak'as] on hot stones [al-radf] — [so brief was his sitting].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏خُصَيْفٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِذَا كُنْتَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَشَكَكْتَ فِي ثَلَاثٍ وَأَرْبَعٍ وَأَكْثَرُ ظَنِّكَ عَلَى أَرْبَعٍ تَشَهَّدْتَ ثُمَّ سَجَدْتَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَأَنْتَ جَالِسٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُسَلِّمَ ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدْتَ أَيْضًا ثُمَّ سَلَّمْتَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Salama, from Khusayf, from Abi 'Ubayda, from his father — from the Prophet ﷺ — that he said: 'When you are in the prayer and doubt [whether you have prayed] three or four [rak'as], and your stronger opinion is four, then complete the tashahhud, then perform two prostrations while sitting before giving the salam, then perform the tashahhud again, then give the salam.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏خُصَيْفٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِذَا شَكَكْتَ فِي صَلَاتِكَ وَأَنْتَ جَالِسٌ فَلَمْ تَدْرِ ثَلَاثًا صَلَّيْتَ أَمْ أَرْبَعًا فَإِنْ كَانَ أَكْبَرُ ظَنِّكَ أَنَّكَ صَلَّيْتَ ثَلَاثًا فَقُمْ فَارْكَعْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلِّمْ ثُمَّ اسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدْ ثُمَّ سَلِّمْ وَإِنْ كَانَ أَكْبَرُ ظَنِّكَ أَنَّكَ صَلَّيْتَ أَرْبَعًا فَسَلِّمْ ثُمَّ اسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدْ ثُمَّ سَلِّمْ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from Khusayf, from Abi 'Ubayda ibn 'Abdillah — that 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'If you doubt during your prayer while sitting — not knowing whether you prayed three or four [rak'as]: if your stronger opinion is that you prayed three, then stand and bow one more rak'a, then give the salam, then perform two prostrations, then do the tashahhud, then give the salam. And if your stronger opinion is that you prayed four, then give the salam, then perform two prostrations, then do the tashahhud, then give the salam.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏الْعَوَّامُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏مَوْلًى ‏ ‏لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَدَّمَ ثَلَاثَةً لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا ‏ ‏الْحِنْثَ ‏ ‏كَانُوا لَهُ حِصْنًا حَصِينًا مِنْ النَّارِ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ ‏ ‏قَدَّمْتُ اثْنَيْنِ قَالَ وَاثْنَيْنِ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ ‏ ‏سَيِّدُ الْقُرَّاءِ قَدَّمْتُ وَاحِدًا قَالَ وَوَاحِدٌ وَلَكِنْ ذَاكَ فِي أَوَّلِ ‏ ‏صَدْمَةٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏الْعَوَّامُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏مَوْلًى ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو ذَرٍّ ‏ ‏لَمْ أُقَدِّمْ إِلَّا اثْنَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَكَذَا ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَاهُ ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏أَيْضًا ‏ ‏قَالَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو ذَرٍّ ‏ ‏مَضَى لِي اثْنَانِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏وَيَزِيدُ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْعَوَّامُ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ‏ ‏خَالَفَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمًا ‏ ‏فَقَالَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Yazid, from al-'Awwam, from Abu Muhammad — a client of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab — from Abi 'Ubayda ibn 'Abdillah, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever has three children who die before reaching [the age of] accountability, they will be a strong fortress for him against the Fire.' Abu al-Darda' said: 'I have had two go before me.' He said: 'And two [is sufficient].' Ubayy ibn Ka'b — Abu al-Mundhir, the master of the reciters — said: 'I have had one go before me.' He said: 'And one [is sufficient]. But that is [with full reward only] at the first moment of shock.' — [Second chain] via Hushaym, from al-'Awwam, from Abu Muhammad — client of 'Umar — from Abi 'Ubayda — the same meaning, except he said: Abu Dharr said: 'I have not had more than two go before me.' Similarly Yazid narrated: 'Abu Dharr said: Two have gone before me.' — [Third chain] via Muhammad and Yazid, from al-'Awwam, from Abu Muhammad — client of 'Umar — from Abi 'Ubayda; these two differed from Hushaym in that they said: 'Abu Muhammad — client of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏خَالِدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏شَهِدَ جِنَازَةَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَأَظْهَرُوا ‏ ‏الِاسْتِغْفَارَ فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْ ذَلِكَ ‏ ‏أَنَسٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏خَالِدٌ ‏ ‏فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَأَدْخَلُوهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ رِجْلِ الْقَبْرِ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏مَرَّةً إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏مَاتَ ‏ ‏بِالْبَصْرَةِ ‏ ‏فَشَهِدَهُ ‏ ‏أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏فَأَظْهَرُوا لَهُ ‏ ‏الِاسْتِغْفَارَ ‏

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Khalid, from Ibn Sireen — that Anas ibn Malik attended the funeral of a man from the Ansar. They recited istighfar [seeking forgiveness] aloud, and Anas did not disapprove of it. Hushaym said: Khalid added in his narration that they lowered [the body] into the grave from the feet side. Hushaym said at another time: A man from the Ansar died in Basra, and Anas ibn Malik attended his funeral; they recited istighfar openly for him.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏خَالِدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ ‏ ‏مَعَ ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏فِي جِنَازَةٍ ‏ ‏فَأَمَرَ بِالْمَيِّتِ فَسُلَّ مِنْ قِبَلِ ‏ ‏رِجْلَيْهِ ‏

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Khalid, from Muhammad [ibn Sireen] — that he said: 'I was with Anas at a funeral. He gave the order concerning the deceased, and the body was slid [into the grave] from the feet side.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو دَاوُدَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏أَنَسٌ ‏ ‏أَحْسَنَ النَّاسِ صَلَاةً فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْحَضَرِ ‏

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Dawud, from Shu'ba, from Anas ibn Sireen — that he said: 'Anas [ibn Malik] was the best of people in his prayer, both in travel and in residence.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏خَالِدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏رَأَيْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏يَسْتَشْرِفُ لِشَيْءٍ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ ‏

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Khalid, from Anas ibn Sireen — that he said: 'I saw Anas ibn Malik look up at something while he was praying, glancing toward it.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عُمَارَةُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَسْوَدِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏الْمَعْنَى ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَا يَجْعَلْ أَحَدُكُمْ لِلشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ جُزْءًا لَا يَرَى إِلَّا أَنَّ حَتْمًا عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَكْثَرُ انْصِرَافِهِ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-A'mash — 'Umara narrated to me — al-Aswad ibn Yazid narrated to me; and [via] Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from 'Umara; and [via] Ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Sulayman — I heard 'Umara, from al-Aswad, from 'Abdullah — with the same meaning — that he said: 'Let none of you give the devil any part of himself, thinking it obligatory upon him to turn away [from the prayer] only to his right — for I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turn away mostly to his left.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏وَشُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏بِئْسَمَا لِأَحَدِكُمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ بَلْ هُوَ نُسِّيَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Sufyan and Shu'ba, from Mansur, from Abi Wa'il — from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'How wrong it is for one of you to say: I forgot such-and-such a verse. Rather, he was caused to forget.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٌ ‏ ‏وَسُلَيْمَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنُؤَاخَذُ بِمَا عَمِلْنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَالَ إِنْ أَحْسَنْتَ لَمْ تُؤَاخَذْ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ أُخِذْتَ بِالْأَوَّلِ وَالْآخِرِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from Sufyan, from Mansur and Sulayman, from Abi Wa'il — that a man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will we be held accountable for what we did in the age of ignorance [al-jahiliyya]?' He said: 'If you do good in Islam you will not be held accountable; and if you do evil in Islam, you will be held accountable for [both] the first and the last.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٌ ‏ ‏وَسُلَيْمَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبِيدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ ‏ ‏إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُمْسِكُ السَّمَوَاتِ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ وَالْأَرَضِينَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ وَالْجِبَالَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ وَالْخَلَائِقَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ وَالشَّجَرَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَنَا الْمَلِكُ فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏حَتَّى بَدَتْ ‏ ‏نَوَاجِذُهُ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ { ‏وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ ‏} ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏فُضَيْلٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ ‏ ‏تَعَجُّبًا وَتَصْدِيقًا لَهُ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Sufyan, from Mansur and Sulayman, from Ibrahim, from 'Abida — that a Jew came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Muhammad, indeed Allah holds the heavens on a finger, the earths on a finger, the mountains on a finger, all creatures on a finger, and the trees on a finger — then says: I am the King.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his back molars were visible, and recited: 'They did not estimate Allah with a true estimation' [39:67]. Yahya said: And Fudayl — meaning ibn 'Iyad — said: [He laughed] in amazement and in affirmation of him [the Jew's statement about Allah's greatness].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي الضُّحَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ ‏ ‏وُلَاةٌ ‏ ‏مِنْ النَّبِيِّينَ وَإِنَّ ‏ ‏وَلِيِّي ‏ ‏مِنْهُمْ أَبِي وَخَلِيلُ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ ‏ { ‏إِنَّ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ ‏ ‏بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏لَلَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ وَهَذَا النَّبِيُّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ‏}

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya and 'Abd al-Rahman, from Sufyan, from his father, from Abi al-Duha — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Every prophet has a close supporter [wali] from among the Prophet ﷺs, and indeed my close supporter from among them is my father [Abraham] and the bosom friend [khalil] of my Lord (عز وجل).' Then he recited: 'Indeed, the most worthy of Ibrahim are those who followed him, and this prophet and those who believe' [3:68].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْمَسْعُودِيِّ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏جَامِعُ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏رَأَيْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏اسْتَبْطَنَ ‏ ‏الْوَادِيَ ‏ ‏فَجَعَلَ ‏ ‏الْجَمْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ حَاجِبِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ ‏ ‏الْبَيْتَ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ رَمَاهَا بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ ‏ ‏دُبُرَ ‏ ‏كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-Mas'udi, from Jami' ibn Shaddad — he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid say: 'I saw 'Abdullah go into the bottom of the valley and position the jamra [Jamrat al-'Aqaba] at his right eyebrow [in alignment], facing the Ka'ba. He then threw it with seven pebbles, saying the takbir after each pebble. Then he said: This, by the One other than whom there is no god, is the standing place of the one upon whom Surah al-Baqara was revealed.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏وَوَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏الْمَعْنَى عَنْ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُرَّةَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏آكِلُ الرِّبَا ‏ ‏وَمُوكِلُهُ وَشَاهِدَاهُ وَكَاتِبُهُ إِذَا عَلِمُوا بِهِ ‏ ‏وَالْوَاشِمَةُ ‏ ‏وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَةُ ‏ ‏لِلْحُسْنِ وَلَاوِي ‏ ‏الصَّدَقَةِ ‏ ‏وَالْمُرْتَدُّ أَعْرَابِيًّا بَعْدَ هِجْرَتِهِ مَلْعُونُونَ عَلَى لِسَانِ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id and Waki', from al-A'mash, from 'Abdillah ibn Murra, from al-Harith ibn 'Abdillah — that 'Abdullah said: 'The one who consumes usury [riba], the one who feeds it to others, its two witnesses, and its writer — if they know it to be riba; the woman who tattoos and the woman who is tattooed for beautification; the one who withholds the [zakat] charity; and the one who returns to desert life [as a Bedouin] after his migration — all are cursed on the tongue of Muhammad (ﷺ) on the Day of Resurrection.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏وَوَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏زَيْدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ ‏ ‏الصَّادِقُ الْمَصْدُوقُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يُجْمَعُ خَلْقُهُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ فِي أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا ‏ ‏أَوْ قَالَ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏لَيْلَةً ‏ ‏ثُمَّ يَكُونُ عَلَقَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ ‏ ‏مُضْغَةً ‏ ‏مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ يُرْسِلُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ الْمَلَكَ بِأَرْبَعِ كَلِمَاتٍ عَمَلُهُ وَأَجَلُهُ وَرِزْقُهُ وَشَقِيٌّ أَوْ سَعِيدٌ ثُمَّ يُنْفَخُ فِيهِ الرُّوحُ فَوَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى مَا يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهَا إِلَّا ذِرَاعٌ فَيَسْبِقُ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابُ فَيُخْتَمُ لَهُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَيَكُونُ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا وَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ حَتَّى مَا يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهَا إِلَّا ذِرَاعٌ فَيَسْبِقُ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابُ فَيُخْتَمُ لَهُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فَيَكُونُ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya and Waki', from al-A'mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — the truthful, the confirmed [al-sadiq al-masduq] — narrated to us: Indeed, one of you has his creation gathered in his mother's womb for forty days — or he said: forty nights (Waki' says: nights) — then it becomes a clot for the same period, then a lump of flesh for the same period. Then Allah (عز وجل) sends to it the angel with four words: his deeds, his lifespan, his provision, and [whether he is] wretched or happy. Then the soul is blown into it. By the One other than whom there is no god, one of you may work with the deeds of the people of Paradise until there is nothing between him and it but a cubit, yet the decree overtakes him and he ends [his life] with the deeds of the people of the Fire and becomes of its people. And one of you may work with the deeds of the people of the Fire until there is nothing between him and it but a cubit, yet the decree overtakes him and he ends [his life] with the deeds of the people of Paradise and becomes of its people.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَسْرُوقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَا تُقْتَلُ نَفْسٌ ظُلْمًا إِلَّا كَانَ عَلَى ابْنِ ‏ ‏آدَمَ ‏ ‏كِفْلٌ ‏ ‏مِنْ دَمِهَا ذَاكَ أَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ مَنْ ‏ ‏سَنَّ ‏ ‏الْقَتْلَ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from Sufyan, from Sulayman, from 'Abdillah ibn Murra, from Masruq — from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'No soul is killed unjustly except that the son of Adam [Cain] bears a share of its blood — for he was the first to establish the practice of killing.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا كَانُوا ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا ‏ ‏يَتَنَاجَى اثْنَانِ دُونَ صَاحِبِهِمَا فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يَحْزُنُهُ ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — from the Prophet ﷺ: 'When they are three [people], two of them should not engage in private conversation to the exclusion of their companion, for that will grieve him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏التَّيْمِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏رَجُلًا ‏ ‏أَصَابَ ‏ ‏مِنْ امْرَأَةٍ قُبْلَةً فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ كَفَّارَتِهَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏ { ‏أَقِمْ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيْ النَّهَارِ ‏ ‏وَزُلَفًا ‏ ‏مِنْ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ ‏ ‏يُذْهِبْنَ ‏ ‏السَّيِّئَاتِ ‏} ‏قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلِي هَذِهِ قَالَ لِمَنْ عَمِلَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-Taymi, from Abi 'Uthman — that a man had kissed a woman [unlawfully] and came to the Prophet ﷺ asking about its expiation. Allah (عز وجل) then revealed: 'Establish the prayer at both ends of the day and at some hours of the night; indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds' [11:114]. The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is this [just] for me?' He said: 'For all of my ummah who act [accordingly].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدًا ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَكْذِبُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَذَّابًا وَأَنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَصْدُقُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ صِدِّيقًا ‏

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from Shu'ba, from Abi Ishaq, from Abi al-Ahwas — that 'Abdullah said: 'Indeed Muhammad (ﷺ) narrated to us that a man keeps lying until he is recorded by Allah as a habitual liar, and a man keeps telling the truth until he is recorded by Allah as profoundly truthful [siddiq].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏التَّيْمِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏مَنْ اشْتَرَى ‏ ‏مُحَفَّلَةً ‏ ‏وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ شَاةً ‏ ‏مُحَفَّلَةً ‏ ‏فَلْيَرُدَّهَا وَلْيَرُدَّ مَعَهَا ‏ ‏صَاعًا ‏

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-Taymi, from Abi 'Uthman — that Ibn Mas'ud said: 'Whoever buys a muhafffala [an animal whose milk has been withheld to deceive a buyer] — and sometimes he said: a muhaffala sheep — let him return it and return with it a sa' [of dates].'

‏ ‏وَنَهَى النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏تَلَقِّي ‏ ‏الْبُيُوعِ ‏

And the Prophet ﷺ forbade intercepting [merchants] before [they reach] the market [talaqqy al-buyu'].
