حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ شَهِدَ جِنَازَةَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ فَأَظْهَرُوا الِاسْتِغْفَارَ فَلَم
ْ يُنْكِرْ ذَلِكَ أَنَسٌ قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ خَالِدٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَأَدْخَلُوهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ رِجْلِ الْقَبْرِ وَقَالَ هُشَيْمٌ مَرَّةً إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ مَاتَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ فَشَهِدَهُ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَأَظْهَرُوا لَهُ الِاسْتِغْفَارَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Khalid, from Ibn Sireen — that Anas ibn Malik attended the funeral of a man from the Ansar. They recited istighfar [seeking forgiveness] aloud, and Anas did not disapprove of it. Hushaym said: Khalid added in his narration that they lowered [the body] into the grave from the feet side. Hushaym said at another time: A man from the Ansar died in Basra, and Anas ibn Malik attended his funeral; they recited istighfar openly for him.
