Hadith #251
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ مُرَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَبِي شُعْبَةُ رَفَعَهُ وَأَنَا لَا أَرْفَعُهُ لَك
َ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { وَمَنْ يُرِدْ فِيهِ بِإِلْحَادٍ بِظُلْمٍ نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ } قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا هَمَّ فِيهِ بِإِلْحَادٍ وَهُوَ بِعَدَنِ أَبْيَنَ لَأَذَاقَهُ اللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid ibn Harun, from Shu'ba, from al-Suddi, from Murra — [Shu'ba raised it to the Prophet ﷺ but the narrator did not raise it] — regarding the words of Allah (عز وجل): 'And whoever intends therein deviation and wrongdoing — We will make him taste a painful punishment' [22:25] — he said: 'If a man merely intended deviation there [in the Sanctuary] while he was in 'Adan Abyan [far away in Yemen], Allah would make him taste a painful punishment.'
