English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hashim, from Shu'ba, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn Maysara, from al-Nazzal ibn Sabra al-Hilali — that he said: 'I heard a man recite a verse differently from what I had heard from the Prophet ﷺ. I took him [by the hand] and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. I recognized displeasure on the face of the Prophet ﷺ. He said: "Both of you are doing well — do not differ." — To the best of my knowledge [he said more]. — Mis'ar says: He did mention in it: "Do not differ — for those who came before you differed and it destroyed them."'
