English Translation
Isma'il narrated to us, Ayyub informed us, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar who said: 'People used to see dreams and relate them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: I — or he said: I wish I could see what you see. So I used to sleep in the mosque. I was a young man, unmarried, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I saw in a dream as if two angels took me and brought me to the Fire. It was walled like a well, and it had two horns (pillars), and in it were people I recognized. I began saying: I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire. Then I met another angel who said: You have nothing to fear. I told this to Hafsah, and Hafsah told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: What an excellent man 'Abdullah is, if only he would pray at night. Salim (Ibn 'Umar's son) said: After that, 'Abdullah would only sleep a little of the night.'
