English Translation

It was narrated — via Isma'il, from 'Abd al-Khaliq — that he said: 'I asked Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab about nabidh [fermented date drink]. He said: "I heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar say at the minbar of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: The delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came with al-Ashajj and asked the Prophet ﷺ of Allah (ﷺ) about drink. He said: 'Do not drink from green-glazed jars [hantama], nor from gourds [dubba'], nor from hollowed-out wood [naqir].'" I said to him: "O Abu Muhammad, and what about pitch-lined vessels [al-muzaffat]?" I thought he had forgotten. He said: "I did not hear him mention that on that day from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar — but ['Abdullah] used to dislike it."'
