حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ ذَكْوَانَ يَعْنِي الْمُعَلِّمَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ
عُمَرَ وَابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَفَعَاهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِرَجُلٍ أَنْ يُعْطِيَ الْعَطِيَّةَ فَيَرْجِعَ فِيهَا إِلَّا الْوَالِدَ فِيمَا يُعْطِي وَلَدَهُ وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْطِي الْعَطِيَّةَ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فِيهَا كَمَثَلِ الْكَلْبِ أَكَلَ حَتَّى إِذَا شَبِعَ قَاءَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فِي قَيْئِهِ

English Translation
It was narrated — via Yazid, from Husayn ibn Dhakwan al-Mu'allim, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from Tawus — that Ibn 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas both traced [this hadith] back to the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: 'It is not permissible for a man to give a gift and then take it back — except for a father [reclaiming] what he gave to his child. The example of the one who gives a gift and then takes it back is like the dog that ate until it was full, then vomited, then returned to its vomit.'
