Chain of Narration (Isnad)

حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ عَفَّانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَكَّةَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مُلَبِّينَ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عُمْرَةً إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيَرُوحُ أَحَدُنَا إِلَى مِنًي وَذَكَرُهُ يَق

ْطُرُ مَنِيًّا قَالَ نَعَمْ وَسَطَعَتْ الْمَجَامِرُ وَقَدِمَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنْ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ قَالَ أَهْلَلْتُ بِمَا أَهَلَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ رَوْحٌ فَإِنَّ لَكَ مَعَنَا هَدْيًا قَالَ حُمَيْدٌ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ طَاوُسًا فَقَالَ هَكَذَا فَعَلَ الْقَوْمُ قَالَ عَفَّانُ اجْعَلْهَا عُمْرَةً

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Rawh and 'Affan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from Humayd, from Bakr ibn 'Abdullah — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Mecca while his companions were reciting the talbiya — having entered ihram for Hajj. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever wishes to make it 'Umra may do so — except those who brought sacrificial animals." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, would one of us go to Mina [after relations with his wife] with [his garment] still wet?" He said: "Yes." Fragrant incense was being burned [in celebration]. Then 'Ali ibn Abi Talib arrived from Yemen and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked: "With what did you enter ihram?" He said: "With the same intention as the Prophet ﷺ." [He said:] "Then you have a sacrificial animal with us." Humayd said: I narrated this to Tawus and he said: "This is what they did."'
