English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Muhammad, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw phlegm [nakhama] in the direction of the qibla [in the mosque] and took a stick — or a pebble — and scraped it off. Then he said: 'When one of you stands to pray, let him not spit in the direction of his qibla — for he is in private communion with his Lord (تبارك وتعالى).'
