Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ يُصَلِّي حَيْثُمَا تَوَجَّهَتْ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ وَيَتَأَوَّلُ عَلَيْهِ { وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ }
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abdullah ibn Idris, from 'Abd al-Malik (meaning Ibn Abi Sulayman), from Sa'id ibn Jubayr — that [Ibn 'Umar] used to pray whichever direction his riding animal faced, and [he said]: 'I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do this, and he would cite [as his evidence]: "And wherever you are, turn your faces toward it." [2:150]'
