English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj [same meaning], from Shu'ba, from Jabala — that he said: 'Ibn al-Zubayr used to provide us with dates. At that time people were suffering hardship, and we would be eating when Ibn 'Umar would pass by us and say: "Do not take two [dates] at a time [al-qiran] — for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade al-iqran."' — [Hajjaj's version: 'He forbade al-qiran unless a man asks permission of his companion.'] Shu'ba said: 'I believe the phrase about asking permission is from Ibn 'Umar's own words, not from the Prophet ﷺ.'
