English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Bahz, from Shu'ba, from Jabala ibn Suhaym — that he said: 'I heard Ibn 'Umar say: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The month is like this'" — and he spread his fingers twice [showing ten then ten], and on the third [gesture] bent his thumb [showing nine].' — Muhammad ibn Ja'far added: meaning twenty-nine [days].
