English Translation
'Abdullah said: I found in my father's book: Yazid narrated to us, Shu'bah informed us, from Jabalah ibn Suhaym who said: Ibn al-Zubayr would give us dates as provisions, and the people at that time were suffering hardship. Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) would pass by us while we were eating and say: 'Do not pair [eat two dates at once], for the Prophet ﷺ forbade pairing unless a person asks permission from his companion.'
