English Translation

Yahya narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah, Nafi' informed me, from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) that he divorced his wife while she was menstruating. 'Umar went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked for a ruling. He ﷺ said: 'Command him to take her back and keep her until she becomes pure, then menstruates, then becomes pure again. Then if he wishes, he may keep her, and if he wishes, he may divorce her before having intercourse. That is the 'iddah which Allah has commanded for divorcing women.'
