حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ تَوْبَةَ الْعَنْبَرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ لِي الشَّعْبِيُّ أَرَأَيْتَ حَدِيثَ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ قَاعَدْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ سَنَتَيْنِ أَوْ سَنَةٍ وَنِصْفٍ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ رَوَى عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَ هَذ
َا قَالَ كَانَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِمْ سَعْدٌ فَذَهَبُوا يَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ لَحْمٍ فَنَادَتْهُمْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ لَحْمُ ضَبٍّ فَأَمْسَكُوا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُلُوا أَوْ اطْعَمُوا فَإِنَّهُ حَلَالٌ وَإِنَّهُ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ تَوْبَةُ الَّذِي شَكَّ فِيهِ وَلَكِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ طَعَامِي

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Tawba al-'Anbari — that he said: 'Al-Sha'bi said to me: "What do you make of the hadiths of al-Hasan [al-Basri] from the Prophet ﷺ? I sat with Ibn 'Umar for close to two years — or a year and a half — and I did not hear him narrate from the Prophet ﷺ anything other than this: Some companions of the Prophet ﷺ, including Sa'd, went to eat some meat, when a woman from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ called out to them: 'It is the meat of a dhabb [large desert lizard].' They refrained. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Eat — or: feed it — for it is halal and there is no objection to it' — Tawba [who was uncertain about the next phrase, said] — 'but it is not from my food.'"'
