It was narrated — via 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Abd al-Majid, from Ayyub, from Nafi' — that Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) divorced his wife while she was menstruating. 'Umar asked the Prophet ﷺ, who commanded him to take her back, then wait until she menstruates another period, then wait until she becomes pure, then divorce her before touching her — for that is the waiting period during which Allah commanded that women be divorced. Ibn 'Umar, when later asked about a man who divorces his wife while menstruating, would say: 'If you divorced her once or twice — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded [Ibn 'Umar] to take her back, wait until she menstruates another period, wait until she becomes pure, then divorce her if he does not wish to keep her. But if you divorced her three times, you have disobeyed Allah (تعالى) in what He commanded you regarding the divorce of your wife — and she has become irrevocably separated from you.'

'Abdullah ibn 'Abdullah came to him and said: 'I fear there may be fighting among the people this year — what if you stayed?' He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Hajj and the disbelievers of Quraysh blocked him from the House. If I am blocked from it, I will do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did. Allah (تبارك وتعالى) says: "In the Messenger of Allah ﷺ you have an excellent example" [33:21].' He then said: 'I call you to witness that I have made 'umra obligatory upon myself.' He journeyed until, when he reached al-Bayda', he said: 'By Allah, I see no way to do them separately — I call you to witness that I have obligated a Hajj together with my 'umra.' He then performed a single tawaf [for both].

It was narrated — via reading to 'Abd al-Rahman: from Malik; and ['Abd al-Razzaq also narrated it from Malik], from Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id al-Maqburi, from 'Ubayd ibn Jurayj — that he said to 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما): 'O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, I have observed you doing four things that I have not seen your companions do.' He said: 'What are they, O Ibn Jurayj?' He said: 'I see you touch only the two Yemeni corners; I see you wear sibtiyya sandals [smooth leather, no hair]; I see you dye with yellow; and I see you in Mecca not enter ihram when people enter it upon seeing the crescent, waiting instead until the day of Tarwiya.' 'Abdullah said: 'As for the corners — I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touch any but the two Yemeni ones. As for the sibtiyya sandals — I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wear sandals with no hair on them and perform wudu while wearing them, so I love to do the same. As for the yellow dye — I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dye with it, so I love to dye with it. As for the ihram — I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ enter ihram until his she-camel rose and set off with him.'
