حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيُّ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يُكْرِي أَرْضَهُ عَلَى عَهْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ وَبَعْضَ عَمَلِ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ وَلَوْ شِئْتُ قُلْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ ا
للَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ إِمَارَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بَلَغَهُ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ حَدِيثٌ فَذَهَبَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ فَتَرَكَ أَنْ يُكْرِيَهَا فَكَانَ إِذَا سُئِلَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ زَعَمَ ابْنُ خَدِيجٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ

English Translation
It was narrated — via 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Abd al-Majid al-Thaqafi, from Ayyub, from Nafi' — that Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) used to rent out his land during the time of Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and part of Mu'awiya's reign. [Nafi'] said: 'If I wished I could say: even in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then toward the end of Mu'awiya's reign, news of a hadith from Rafi' ibn Khadij reached him. He went to him — and I was with him — and asked about it. [Rafi'] said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade renting out farmlands.' So [Ibn 'Umar] stopped renting his land. Afterward, whenever asked about it, he would say: 'Ibn Khadij claims that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade renting out farmlands.'
