حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْخَصِيبِ قَالَ كُنْتُ قَاعِدًا فَجَاءَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ م
َجْلِسِهِ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَجْلِسْ فِيهِ وَقَعَدَ فِي مَكَانٍ آخَرَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ مَا كَانَ عَلَيْكَ لَوْ قَعَدْتَ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَكُنْ أَقْعُدُ فِي مَقْعَدِكَ وَلَا مَقْعَدِ غَيْرِكَ بَعْدَ شَيْءٍ شَهِدْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ فَذَهَبَ لِيَجْلِسَ فِيهِ فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from 'Aqil ibn Talha — who heard Abu al-Khasib say: 'I was sitting when Ibn 'Umar arrived, and a man stood up from his seat to give it to him. [Ibn 'Umar] did not sit in it and sat in another place. The man said: "What would have been wrong if you had sat [in it]?" He said: "I would not sit in your seat nor anyone else's, ever since I witnessed something from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and another man stood up from his seat for him — and when [the newcomer] was about to sit in it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade him."'
