حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَة

ُ قَالَ جَبَلَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ كُنَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي بَعْثِ الْعِرَاقِ فَكَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ يَرْزُقُنَا التَّمْرَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَمُرُّ بِنَا فَيَقُولُ لَا تُقَارِنُوا فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ الْقِرَانِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْكُمْ أَخَاهُ

English Translation

'Affan narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, Jabalah informed me who said: 'We were in Madinah among the Iraqi contingent, and Ibn al-Zubayr would give us dates as provisions. Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) would pass by us and say: "Do not eat two dates at a time, for the Prophet ﷺ prohibited eating two at a time, unless one asks permission of his companion."'
