English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Zayd ibn Yahya al-Dimashqi, from 'Abdullah ibn al-'Ala', from Salim ibn 'Abdullah — that he said: 'I heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar say: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The night prayer is two rak'as at a time [mathna mathna]. When you fear the dawn, make it odd with one rak'a, which makes your prayer an odd number [witr].'" And 'Abdullah used to make it odd with one [rak'a].'
