‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُؤَمَّلٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَالِمٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏إِذَا ذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ ‏ ‏الْبَيْدَاءُ ‏ ‏يَسُبُّهَا وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا ‏ ‏أَحْرَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏ذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Sufyan, from Musa ibn 'Uqba, from Salim — that he said: 'Whenever al-Bayda' was mentioned in the presence of Ibn 'Umar, he would criticize it and say: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ only entered ihram from Dhul Hulayfa."'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from 'Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Zayd ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If people knew what lies in being alone [at night], no one would travel alone by night.' — [Ahmad said: 'Mu'ammal narrated it to us on another occasion without the attribution to Ibn 'Umar.' 'Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: 'I heard my father say: Mu'ammal heard hadiths from 'Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Zayd, and also heard from Ibn Jurayj.']

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Sufyan, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that he heard Ibn 'Umar say: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your lifespan relative to those before you is like [the time] between 'Asr prayer and the setting of the sun."'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from Ayyub, from Nafi' — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [recited the verses]: "The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds" [83:6] and "In a Day whose measure is fifty thousand years" [70:4], and said: "[They will stand] in sweat up to the middle of their ears."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُؤَمَّلٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ لِي ‏ ‏مُحَارِبُ بْنُ دِثَارٍ ‏ ‏مَا سَمِعْتَ ‏ ‏سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ ‏ ‏يَذْكُرُ عَنْ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏فِي ‏ ‏الْكَوْثَرِ ‏ ‏فَقُلْتُ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏هَذَا الْخَيْرُ الْكَثِيرُ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏مُحَارِبٌ ‏ ‏سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مَا أَقَلَّ مَا يَسْقُطُ ‏ ‏لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏قَوْلٌ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏ابْنَ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ لَمَّا أُنْزِلَتْ ‏ ‏إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏هُوَ نَهَرٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ حَافَتَاهُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ يَجْرِي عَلَى جَنَادِلِ ‏ ‏الدُّرِّ ‏ ‏وَالْيَاقُوتِ شَرَابُهُ أَحْلَى مِنْ الْعَسَلِ وَأَشَدُّ بَيَاضًا مِنْ اللَّبَنِ وَأَبْرَدُ مِنْ الثَّلْجِ وَأَطْيَبُ مِنْ رِيحِ ‏ ‏الْمِسْكِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏صَدَقَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏هَذَا وَاللَّهِ الْخَيْرُ الْكَثِيرُ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib — that he said: 'Muharib ibn Dithar said to me: "What did you hear Sa'id ibn Jubayr say on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas regarding al-Kawthar?" I said: "I heard him say: Ibn 'Abbas said: 'It is abundant good [khayr kathir].'" Muharib said: "SubhanAllah — how rarely does Ibn 'Abbas err. I heard Ibn 'Umar say: When 'Inna a'taynaka al-kawthar' was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It is a river in Paradise whose banks are of gold, flowing over pebbly beds of pearls and rubies. Its drink is sweeter than honey, whiter than milk, colder than snow, and more fragrant than musk.'" He said: "Ibn 'Abbas spoke truly — by Allah, this is the abundant good."'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Sufyan, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that he heard Ibn 'Umar say: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever says to his brother: 'O disbeliever!' — [the charge] falls upon one of them."'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from Ayyub, from Nafi' — that he said: 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "For every treacherous person a banner will be raised on the Day of Resurrection."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يَعْلَى بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏حَرَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏نَبِيذَ ‏ ‏الْجَرِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَتَيْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏صَدَقَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ مَا ‏ ‏الْجَرُّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُلُّ شَيْءٍ يُصْنَعُ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْمَدَرِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq ibn 'Isa, from Jarir ibn Hazim, from Ya'la ibn Hakim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade nabidh in earthenware jars [al-jarr]. I went to 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas and informed him, and he said: "Ibn 'Umar spoke truly." I asked: "What is al-jarr?" He said: "Everything made from clay."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الْوِصَالِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ أَوَلَسْتَ ‏ ‏تُوَاصِلُ ‏ ‏قَالَ إِنِّي أُطْعَمُ وَأُسْقَى ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade al-wisal [continuous fasting without breaking at sunset]. They said: "But do you not practice al-wisal?" He said: "I am fed and given drink [by Allah]."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بَعَثَ ‏ ‏سَرِيَّةً ‏ ‏قِبَلَ ‏ ‏نَجْدٍ ‏ ‏فِيهَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏فَكَانَتْ سُهْمَانُهُمْ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ بَعِيرًا ‏ ‏وَنُفِّلُوا ‏ ‏بَعِيرًا بَعِيرًا ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an expedition toward Najd in which 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar participated. Their shares [of the booty] were twelve camels each, and they were given an additional camel each as a bonus [nafl].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ أَعْتَقَ شِرْكًا فِي عَبْدٍ فَكَانَ لَهُ مَالٌ يَبْلُغُ ثَمَنَ الْعَبْدِ فَإِنَّهُ يُقَوَّمُ عَلَيْهِ قِيمَةَ ‏ ‏عَدْلٍ ‏ ‏فَيُعْطَى شُرَكَاؤُهُ حِصَصَهُمْ وَعَتَقَ الْعَبْدُ عَلَيْهِ وَإِلَّا فَقَدْ عَتَقَ مَا عَتَقَ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever frees his share of a jointly-owned slave — if he has wealth sufficient to cover [the rest of] the slave's value, [the slave] is to be assessed at a fair price and his partners are given their shares, and the slave is freed from him [in full]. Otherwise, he has freed only the portion he freed.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَاخَ ‏ ‏بِالْبَطْحَاءِ ‏ ‏الَّتِي ‏ ‏بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ ‏ ‏فَصَلَّى بِهَا ‏ ‏وَأَنَّ ‏ ‏ابْنَ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏كَانَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq ibn 'Isa, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made his camel kneel at the flat ground [al-batha'] of Dhul Hulayfa and prayed there. And Ibn 'Umar used to do the same.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ إِنَّمَا ‏ ‏مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَثَلِ صَاحِبِ الْإِبِلِ ‏ ‏الْمُعَقَّلَةِ ‏ ‏فَإِنْ تَعَاهَدَهَا أَمْسَكَهَا وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq ibn 'Isa, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The parable of the one who memorizes the Quran is like the owner of hobbled camels — if he tends to them he keeps hold of them, but if he lets them free they wander away.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا نَبْتَاعُ الطَّعَامَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَيَبْعَثُ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ يَأْمُرُنَا بِنَقْلِهِ مِنْ الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي ابْتَعْنَاهُ فِيهِ إِلَى مَكَانٍ سِوَاهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ نَبِيعَهُ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that he said: 'In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to purchase food, and he would send someone to us commanding us to move it from the place where we had purchased it to another place before we sold it.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ وَقَالَ مَنْ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا إِلَّا كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ أَوْ ضَارِيَةٍ نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ ‏ ‏قِيرَاطَانِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the killing of dogs, and said: 'Whoever keeps a dog — except a dog for livestock or for hunting — two qirats are deducted from his deeds every day.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا مَاتَ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ مَقْعَدُهُ ‏ ‏بِالْغَدَاةِ ‏ ‏وَالْعَشِيِّ إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَمِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَيُقَالُ هَذَا مَقْعَدُكَ حَتَّى يَبْعَثَكَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you dies, his place [in the Hereafter] is shown to him morning and evening. If he is among the people of Paradise, [he sees a place] among the people of Paradise; if he is among the people of Hellfire, [he sees a place] among the people of Hellfire. It is said to him: "This is your place — until Allah resurrects you to it on the Day of Resurrection."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏وَإِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏دَخَلَ ‏ ‏الْكَعْبَةَ ‏ ‏وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ ‏ ‏وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏وَبِلَالٌ ‏ ‏فَأَغْلَقَهَا فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ سَأَلْتُ ‏ ‏بِلَالًا ‏ ‏مَاذَا صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏تَرَكَ عَمُودَيْنِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَمُودًا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَثَلَاثَةَ أَعْمِدَةٍ خَلْفَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَبَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَذْرُعٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏وَكَانَ ‏ ‏الْبَيْتُ ‏ ‏يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى سِتَّةِ أَعْمِدَةٍ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ الَّذِي بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi and Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the Ka'ba along with 'Uthman ibn Talha, Usama ibn Zayd, and Bilal, and shut the door. When he came out, [Ibn 'Umar] asked Bilal: 'What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do inside?' He said: 'He left two pillars to his right and one pillar to his left and three pillars behind him, then prayed — with three cubits between him and the [direction of the] qibla.' — Ishaq added: 'The House at that time had six pillars.' And [the first narrator] did not mention the space between him and the qibla.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Rahman, from Malik, from Nafi' — that he said: 'They used to perform wudu together.' [The narrator] asked Malik: 'Men and women?' He said: 'Yes.' He asked: 'In the time of the Prophet ﷺ?' He said: 'Yes.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏عَائِشَةَ ‏ ‏أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ جَارِيَةً تُعْتِقُهَا قَالَ أَهْلُهَا نَبِيعُكِ عَلَى أَنَّ ‏ ‏وَلَاءَهَا ‏ ‏لَنَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لَا يَمْنَعْكِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ ‏ ‏الْوَلَاءَ ‏ ‏لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq ibn 'Isa, from Malik, from Nafi' — that 'A'isha wanted to purchase a slave girl to free her. Her owners said: 'We will sell her to you on the condition that her wala' [patronage right] belongs to us.' She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: 'Let that not stop you — for the wala' belongs to the one who frees.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَا حَقُّ امْرِئٍ لَهُ شَيْءٌ ‏ ‏يُوصِي فِيهِ يَبِيتُ لَيْلَتَيْنِ إِلَّا وَوَصِيَّتُهُ مَكْتُوبَةٌ عِنْدَهُ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It is not right for any man who has something to bequeath to sleep even two nights without having his will written and with him.'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his Companions: 'Do not enter upon these punished peoples except while weeping — and if you cannot weep, do not enter upon them, lest what befell them befall you.'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whichever man says to his brother: "O disbeliever!" — [the charge] falls upon one of them.'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that he said: 'While the people were at Quba' during the Fajr prayer, someone came and said: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had Quran revealed to him last night, and he has been commanded to face the Ka'ba — so face it." Their faces had been toward Syria, so they turned to face the Ka'ba.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَطَنِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏وَهْبِ بْنِ قَطَنٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ ‏ ‏شَكَّ ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يُحَنَّسَ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏الزُّبَيْرِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏إِذْ أَتَتْهُ مَوْلَاةٌ لَهُ فَذَكَرَتْ شِدَّةَ ‏ ‏الْحَالِ ‏ ‏وَأَنَّهَا تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لَهَا اجْلِسِي فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏لَا يَصْبِرُ أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى ‏ ‏لَأْوَائِهَا ‏ ‏وَشِدَّتِهَا إِلَّا كُنْتُ لَهُ شَفِيعًا ‏ ‏أَوْ شَهِيدًا ‏ ‏يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Qatan ibn Wahb — or Wahb ibn Qatan al-Laythi (Ishaq was uncertain) — from Yuhannasa, freed slave of al-Zubayr — that he said: 'I was with Ibn 'Umar when a freed slave woman of his came and mentioned the hardship of her situation and her wish to leave Medina. He said to her: "Stay — for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever endures its hardships and difficulties, I will be an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.'"'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ishaq, from Malik, from Abu Bakr ibn 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, from Sa'id ibn Yasar — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Witr while riding. [Ishaq said: 'I asked Malik about a man performing Witr while riding, and he informed me of this.']

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Sufyan, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Tawus — that he said: 'the Prophet ﷺ was asked about the night prayer and said: "[Pray] two [rak'as] at a time — two at a time. When you fear the approach of dawn, [pray] one."'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Sufyan, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'When the Jews greet you, they say: "al-Sam 'alaykum [Death be upon you]" — so say in reply: "Wa 'alayk [And upon you]."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُرَيْجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُلَازِمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ ‏ ‏خَرَجَ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ حُجَّاجًا حَتَّى وَرَدُوا ‏ ‏مَكَّةَ ‏ ‏فَدَخَلُوا الْمَسْجِدَ فَاسْتَلَمُوا الْحَجَرَ ثُمَّ طُفْنَا ‏ ‏بِالْبَيْتِ ‏ ‏أُسْبُوعًا ثُمَّ صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ ‏ ‏الْمَقَامِ ‏ ‏رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ ضَخْمٌ فِي ‏ ‏إِزَارٍ ‏ ‏وَرِدَاءٍ يُصَوِّتُ بِنَا عِنْدَ الْحَوْضِ فَقُمْنَا إِلَيْهِ وَسَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ فَقَالُوا ‏ ‏ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَاهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنْتُمْ قُلْنَا أَهْلُ الْمَشْرِقِ وَثَمَّ أَهْلُ ‏ ‏الْيَمَامَةِ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَحُجَّاجٌ أَمْ عُمَّارٌ قُلْتُ بَلْ حُجَّاجٌ قَالَ فَإِنَّكُمْ قَدْ نَقَضْتُمْ حَجَّكُمْ قُلْتُ قَدْ حَجَجْتُ مِرَارًا فَكُنْتُ أَفْعَلُ كَذَا قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْنَا مَكَانَنَا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏فَقُلْتُ يَا ‏ ‏ابْنَ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏إِنَّا قَدِمْنَا فَقَصَصْنَا عَلَيْهِ قِصَّتَنَا وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ مَا قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ نَقَضْتُمْ حَجَّكُمْ قَالَ أُذَكِّرُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ أَخَرَجْتُمْ حُجَّاجًا قُلْنَا نَعَمْ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ حَجَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏وَعُمَرُ ‏ ‏كُلُّهُمْ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from Mulazim ibn 'Amr, from 'Abdullah ibn Badr — that he said: 'I went out with a group of my companions as pilgrims and arrived at Mecca. We entered the mosque, touched the Stone, and performed seven circuits of the House, then prayed two rak'as behind the Maqam. A large man in an izar and rida' called out to us near the water pool. We went to him and asked who he was — they said it was Ibn 'Abbas. When we came to him he asked: "Who are you?" We said: "People of the east — and people of al-Yamama." He said: "Pilgrims or 'umra-performers?" I said: "Pilgrims." He said: "Then you have invalidated your Hajj." I said: "I have performed Hajj several times and always did the same [thing]." We then waited in place until Ibn 'Umar arrived. I said: "O Ibn 'Umar, we have arrived" — and I told him our story and informed him of what [Ibn 'Abbas] had said about us invalidating our Hajj. He said: "I adjure you by Allah — did you depart as pilgrims?" We said: "Yes." He said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and 'Umar all performed Hajj, and every one of them did exactly what you did."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُرَيْجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَهْدِيٌّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ أَبِي نُعْمٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ ‏ ‏الْعِرَاقِ ‏ ‏قَالَ انْظُرُوا إِلَى هَذَا يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏هُمَا رَيْحَانَتِي مِنْ الدُّنْيَا ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from Mahdi, from Muhammad ibn Abi Ya'qub, from Ibn Abi Nu'm — that he said: 'I was sitting with Ibn 'Umar when a man came to ask him about the blood of a mosquito. Ibn 'Umar said: "Where are you from?" He said: "I am from the people of Iraq." He said: "Look at this one — he asks me about the blood of a mosquito, while they have killed the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "They are my two sweet-basils [rayhanatan] from this world.""'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from Flayyh, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Ikrima, from Rafi' ibn Hunayn Abu al-Mughira — that [Ibn 'Umar] informed him that he had seen the Prophet ﷺ's (ﷺ) place of relieving himself facing the qibla [indicating it is permitted].

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Sadaqat al-fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim — young or old, free or slave, male or female — one sa' of dates or one sa' of barley.'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that he used to perform the brisk walking pace [raml] for three circuits from the Stone to the Stone, and walk normally for four, and he would report that the Prophet ﷺ used to do the same.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that he used to throw pebbles at the Jamra on the Day of Sacrifice [Nahr] while riding, and the remaining [throwings] while on foot, and he informed them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do the same.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that Ibn 'Umar would not touch anything of the House [Ka'ba] except the two Yamani corners — he would touch them and report that the Prophet ﷺ used to do the same.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that he said: 'We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as pilgrims, and we did not exit ihram from anything until we exited it on the Day of Sacrifice [Nahr].'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I want to give in charity my property at Thamgh.' He said: 'Retain the principal and make the produce available [as charity].' [This established the waqf/endowment of 'Umar.]

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Sa'id al-Maqburi — that he said: 'I sat with Ibn 'Umar while he had a man with him in private conversation. I joined them and he struck my chest with his hand and said: "Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When two people are engaged in private conversation, do not sit with them until you have asked their permission'?"'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Surayj, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that he used to dye his beard yellow, wear sandals of sibtiyya leather, touch the two [Yamani] corners [of the Ka'ba], and make the talbiyah when his riding camel had risen level [carrying him] — and he would report that the Prophet ﷺ used to do the same.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Hashim ibn al-Qasim, from Shu'ba, from Abu Bakr ibn Hafs, from Salim ibn 'Abdullah, from his father — that the Prophet ﷺ sent 'Umar a garment [hulla] of silk or striped cloth. When he saw it on him, he said: 'I did not send it to you to wear — it is the clothing of one who has no share [in the Hereafter]. I sent it to you to make use of it [by selling or giving it away].' — [Second chain via Aswad, from Shu'ba, from Abu Bakr ibn Hafs, from Salim, from Ibn 'Umar — the same.]

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سِنَانُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏كُلَيْبِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِتْنَةً ‏ ‏فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يُقْتَلُ فِيهَا هَذَا ‏ ‏الْمُقَنَّعُ ‏ ‏يَوْمَئِذٍ ‏ ‏ظُلْمًا ‏ ‏قَالَ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا هُوَ ‏ ‏عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ‏ ‏رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Aswad ibn 'Amir, from Sinan ibn Harun, from Kulayb ibn Wa'il — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a sedition [fitna], and a veiled man [al-muqanna'] passed by. He said: "This veiled one will be killed in it unjustly [zulman]." I looked — and it was 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (رضي الله تعالى عنه).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَسْوَدُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ ‏ ‏نَبِيذِ ‏ ‏الْجَرِّ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏حَرَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَأَتَيْتُ ‏ ‏ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ‏ ‏فَقُلْتُ لَهُ سَأَلْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نَبِيذِ ‏ ‏الْجَرِّ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ حَرَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏صَدَقَ ‏ ‏أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ مَا ‏ ‏الْجَرُّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْ ‏ ‏مَدَرٍ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Aswad, from Aban, from Qatada, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr — that he was asked about nabidh in earthenware jars [al-jarr] and said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it.' He said: 'I then went to Ibn 'Abbas and told him: "I asked Abu 'Abd al-Rahman about nabidh in earthenware jars and he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it." He said: "Abu 'Abd al-Rahman spoke truly."' He asked: 'What is al-jarr?' He said: 'Everything made from clay.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَسْوَدُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شَرِيكٌ ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏سَلَمَةَ بْنَ كُهَيْلٍ ‏ ‏يَذْكُرُ عَنْ ‏ ‏مُجَاهِدٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ شَجَرَةً يُنْتَفَعُ بِهَا مِثْلَ الْمُؤْمِنِ هِيَ الَّتِي لَا يُنْفَضُ وَرَقُهَا قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ ‏ ‏فَفَرِقْتُ ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ بَعْدُ يَقُولُ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ ‏

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Aswad, from Sharik, from Salama ibn Kuhayl, from Mujahid — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I know a tree whose usefulness is like that of the believer — it is the one that does not shed its leaves.' Ibn 'Umar said: 'I wanted to say it was the date palm, but I felt too shy before 'Umar. Then later I heard him say: "It is the date palm."'

It was narrated — via Aswad and Husayn, from Sharik, from Mu'awiya ibn Ishaq, from Abu Salih, from a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ — believed to be Ibn 'Umar — that he said: 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "Whoever mutilates a living creature and does not repent, Allah will mutilate him on the Day of Resurrection."' — [Husayn's version: 'Whoever mutilates a living creature [dhi ruh].' — 'Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: I found this hadith in my father's book in his own handwriting.]

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Aswad ibn 'Amir, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr — that he said: 'I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times and he recited [a surah containing] a prostration [sajda] during the obligatory prayer.'

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Aswad ibn 'Amir, from Ayyub ibn 'Utba, from 'Ikrima ibn Khalid — that he said: 'I asked 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar about a man who wanted to marry a woman while he was departing from Mecca and intended to perform 'umra or Hajj.' He said: 'Do not marry while you are in the state of ihram — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it.' — ['Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: I found this hadith in my father's book in his own handwriting.]

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Husayn, from Sharik, from Muhammad ibn Zayd, from Nafi' — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a slain woman on the Day of the Conquest of Mecca and said: "She was not fighting!" Then he forbade the killing of women and children.'
