English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi and Ishaq, from Malik, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the Ka'ba along with 'Uthman ibn Talha, Usama ibn Zayd, and Bilal, and shut the door. When he came out, [Ibn 'Umar] asked Bilal: 'What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do inside?' He said: 'He left two pillars to his right and one pillar to his left and three pillars behind him, then prayed — with three cubits between him and the [direction of the] qibla.' — Ishaq added: 'The House at that time had six pillars.' And [the first narrator] did not mention the space between him and the qibla.
