English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Mu'ammal, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib — that he said: 'Muharib ibn Dithar said to me: "What did you hear Sa'id ibn Jubayr say on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas regarding al-Kawthar?" I said: "I heard him say: Ibn 'Abbas said: 'It is abundant good [khayr kathir].'" Muharib said: "SubhanAllah — how rarely does Ibn 'Abbas err. I heard Ibn 'Umar say: When 'Inna a'taynaka al-kawthar' was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It is a river in Paradise whose banks are of gold, flowing over pebbly beds of pearls and rubies. Its drink is sweeter than honey, whiter than milk, colder than snow, and more fragrant than musk.'" He said: "Ibn 'Abbas spoke truly — by Allah, this is the abundant good."'
