English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr, from Shu'ba, from Tawba, who said — that al-Sha'bi said: 'I accompanied Ibn 'Umar for a year and a half and did not hear him narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except one hadith. He said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a lizard [dabb] was brought. The people started eating it. One of his wives called out that it was a lizard. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Eat it — for it is halal' — or: 'Eat it — there is no harm in it.' He then refrained [from eating it] himself. He said: 'It is not forbidden, but it is not of my food.'"'
