حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَوْ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُبَىُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ يَأْتِيَانِ النَّخْلَ الَّتِي فِيهَا ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ حَتَّى إِذَا دَخَلَا النَّخْلَ طَفِقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَّقِي بِجُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ وَهُوَ يَخْتِلُ ابْنَ صَيَّادٍ أَنْ يَسْمَعَ مِنْ
ابْنِ صَيَّادٍ شَيْئًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرَاهُ وَابْنُ صَيَّادٍ مُضْطَجِعٌ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فِي قَطِيفَةٍ لَهُ فِيهَا زَمْزَمَةٌ قَالَ فَرَأَتْ أُمُّهُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَّقِي بِجُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ فَقَالَتْ أَيْ صَافِ وَهُوَ اسْمُهُ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ فَثَارَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ تَرَكَتْهُ بَيَّنَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ انْطَلَقَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ يَؤُمَّانِ النَّخْلَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Salim — or from more than one narrator — who said: Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Ubayy ibn Ka'b went to the place where Ibn Sayyad was. They found him playing with boys near the fortress of Banu Maghala. Ibn Sayyad had nearly reached puberty. He did not notice until the Prophet ﷺ patted his back. the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" Ibn Sayyad looked at him and said: "I testify that you are the messenger of the unlettered." Then Ibn Sayyad said: "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" the Prophet ﷺ dismissed him and said: "I believe in Allah and His messengers." Then he asked: "What do you see?" He said: "A truthful one and a liar come to me." the Prophet ﷺ said: "The matter has been confused for you." the Prophet ﷺ said: "I have concealed something for you." He said: "It is al-dukh." He said: "Be gone! You cannot surpass your destiny."'
