حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ أ

َوَّلُ صَدَقَةٍ كَانَتْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ صَدَقَةُ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْبِسْ أُصُولَهَا وَسَبِّلْ ثَمَرَتَهَا

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Hammad, from 'Abdullah, from Nafi' — that he said: 'The first charitable endowment [sadaqa] in Islam was that of 'Umar. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Keep the principal and make the yield available [for charity]."'
