English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Abd al-Warith, from his father, from Habib, from 'Amr [ibn Shu'ayb], from his father, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr — that Abu Tha'laba al-Khushani came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have trained hunting dogs — give me a ruling about their prey.' He said: 'If you have trained hunting dogs, eat what they catch for you.' He asked: 'Whether slaughtered or not?' He said: 'Whether slaughtered or not.' He asked: 'Even if they eat from it?' He said: 'Even if they eat from it.' He asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, give me a ruling about my bow [and arrow].' He said: 'Eat what your bow catches for you.' He asked: 'Whether slaughtered or not?' He said: 'Whether slaughtered or not.' He asked: 'Even if it goes out of my sight?' He said: 'Even if it goes out of your sight — as long as it has not decomposed, or you do not find in it the mark of something other than your arrow.' He asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, give us a ruling about the vessels of the Magians [Zoroastrians] when we are forced to use them.' He said: 'When you are compelled to use them, wash them with water and cook in them.'
