حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ وَعَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ وَرَوْحٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو ب
ْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَصُومُ نِصْفَ الدَّهْرِ وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَرْقُدُ شَطْرَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ ثُمَّ يَرْقُدُ آخِرَهُ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ ثُلُثَ اللَّيْلِ بَعْدَ شَطْرِهِ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Bakr and Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, they said: Ibn Jurayj narrated to us — and Rawh said: Ibn Jurayj informed us — 'Amr ibn Dinar informed me that 'Amr ibn Aws informed him, from Abdullah ibn Amr (رضي الله عنهما), from the Prophet ﷺ who said: 'The best of fasting is the fasting of my brother Dawud عليه السلام: he would fast one day and break his fast the next. And he would never flee when he met (the enemy in battle).'
