English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from 'Umar ibn Abi Salama, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The virgin is asked for her permission [and her consent must be explicitly sought], and the previously married woman is consulted [about her preference].' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the virgin is shy [and may not speak].' He said: 'Her silence is her consent.'
