Hadith #181

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ كَافِي الثَّلَاثَةِ وَالثَّلَاثَةِ كَافِي الْأَرْبَعَةِ إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ النَّاسِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ جَعَلَ الْفَرَاشُ وَالدَّوَابُّ تَتَقَحَّمُ فِيهَا فَأَنَا آخِذٌ بِحُجَزِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَوَاقَعُونَ فِيهَا
English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The food of two is sufficient for three, and the food of three is sufficient for four. My likeness and the likeness of the people is like a man who kindled a fire. When it illuminated what was around him, moths and insects began throwing themselves into it. I am [grabbing you back] by your waistbands [bi-hujazikum], yet you throw yourselves into it.'
