Hadith #1Ungraded

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَيَّارٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ حَجَّ فَلَمْ ‏ ‏يَرْفُثْ ‏ ‏وَلَمْ يَفْسُقْ رَجَعَ كَهَيْئَتِهِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Sayyar, from Abu Hazim — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit rafath [sexual talk or behavior] or fusq [sinful conduct], returns [purified] as on the day his mother bore him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏هِشَامٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ‏ ‏أَطُوفُ اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى مِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ تَلِدُ كُلُّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ غُلَامًا يُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ ‏ ‏يَسْتَثْنِ ‏ ‏فَمَا وَلَدَتْ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ ‏ ‏بِشِقِّ ‏ ‏إِنْسَانٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَوْ ‏ ‏اسْتَثْنَى ‏ ‏لَوُلِدَ لَهُ مِائَةُ غُلَامٍ كُلُّهُمْ يُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from Hisham, from Ibn Sirin — that Sulayman ibn Dawud said: 'Tonight I will go around [visit intimately] one hundred women, and each of them will give birth to a son who fights in the way of Allah' — but he did not say In sha'a Allah [did not add the exception]. And only one of them gave birth — and that was to a [misformed] half-human. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Had he said In sha'a Allah, he would have been given one hundred sons, each of them fighting in the way of Allah.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يُونُسَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْحَسَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي بِثَلَاثٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏هُشَيْمٌ ‏ ‏فَلَا أَدَعُهُنَّ حَتَّى أَمُوتَ ‏ ‏بِالْوِتْرِ قَبْلَ النَّوْمِ وَصِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ وَالْغُسْلِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym and Isma'il ibn Ibrahim, from Yunus, from al-Hasan — that Abu Hurayra said: 'My close friend [khalili — the Prophet ﷺ] advised me with three things' — Hushaym [adds]: 'which I will never abandon until I die: witr prayer before sleeping, fasting three days from every month, and bathing [ghusl] on Friday.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُعْتَمِرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏خَمْسٌ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْفِطْرَةِ ‏ ‏قَصُّ الشَّارِبِ وَتَقْلِيمُ الْأَظْفَارِ وَنَتْفُ الْإِبْطِ ‏ ‏وَالِاسْتِحْدَادُ ‏ ‏وَالْخِتَانُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Mu'tamir, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Five things are of the fitra [the innate nature of cleanliness]: trimming the mustache, clipping the nails, removing armpit hair, shaving pubic hair [istihdad], and circumcision.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي رَافِعٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏صَلَاةَ ‏ ‏الْعَتَمَةِ ‏ ‏أَوْ قَالَ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ ‏ ‏فَقَرَأَ ‏ ‏إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ ‏ ‏فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا فَقُلْتُ يَا ‏ ‏أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ سَجَدْتُ فِيهَا خَلْفَ ‏ ‏أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَلَا أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Rafi' (رضي الله عنه) — via Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman, from his father, from Bakr — that Abu Rafi' said: 'I prayed the 'atama [Isha] prayer — or he said: the 'Isha prayer — with Abu Hurayra. He recited {When the sky is split asunder} [84:1] and performed sujud [prostration of recitation] during it. I [asked him about it and] said: "O Abu Hurayra!" He said: "I performed sujud during it behind Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) — so I will continue performing it until I meet him."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏بِشْرُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا وَقَعَ الذُّبَابُ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَإِنَّ فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَيْهِ دَاءً وَفِي الْآخَرِ شِفَاءً وَإِنَّهُ ‏ ‏يَتَّقِي بِجَنَاحِهِ الَّذِي فِيهِ الدَّاءُ فَلْيَغْمِسْهُ كُلَّهُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Bishr ibn Mufaddal, from Ibn 'Ajlan, from Sa'id al-Maqburi — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When a fly falls into the vessel of one of you — for indeed in one of its wings is a disease, and in the other is the cure, and it shields itself with the wing that has the disease — so let him dip it [the fly] completely [into the liquid, then remove it].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏بِشْرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا انْتَهَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْمَجْلِسِ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ فَلَيْسَ الْأَوَّلُ بِأَحَقَّ مِنْ الْآخِرِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Bishr, from Ibn 'Ajlan, from Sa'id al-Maqburi — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you approaches a gathering [majlis], let him give salam. And when he wants to leave, let him give salam — for the first [greeting upon arrival] is no more deserving [of being given] than the last [upon departure].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا ‏ ‏يَجْزِي وَلَدٌ وَالِدَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَجِدَهُ مَمْلُوكًا فَيَشْتَرِيَهُ فَيُعْتِقَهُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Ishaq ibn Yusuf, from Sufyan, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'A son cannot fully repay his father — except if he finds him enslaved, buys him, and then frees him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمُهَلَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ ‏ ‏لِيُؤْتَمَّ ‏ ‏بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ فَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعِينَ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abbad ibn 'Abbad al-Muhallabi, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, from Abu Salama — from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'The imam is appointed to be followed. When he says Allahu Akbar, say Allahu Akbar. When he bows, bow. When he says: Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah — say: Rabbana laka al-hamd. And when he prays sitting, all of you pray sitting.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ جُعِلَ قَاضِيًا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَدْ ذُبِحَ بِغَيْرِ سِكِّينٍ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Safwan ibn 'Isa, from 'Abdullah ibn Sa'id ibn Abi Hind, from Sa'id al-Maqburi — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever is appointed judge among people has been slaughtered without a knife.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏الْعَلَاءَ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا الْغِيَابَةُ قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ذِكْرُكَ أَخَاكَ بِمَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ فِي أَخِي مَا أَقُولُ لَهُ ‏ ‏يَعْنِي قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ ‏ ‏فَقَدْ ‏ ‏اغْتَبْتَهُ ‏ ‏وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ فَقَدْ ‏ ‏بَهَتَّهُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, who heard al-'Ala' narrating from his father — from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'Do you know what backbiting [al-ghiba] is?' They said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said: 'It is your mentioning your brother [in his absence] with something that is not in him [i.e., something he lacks].' Someone said: 'What if what I say about my brother is actually true?' He said: 'If what you say is in him, then you have backbitten him. And if it is not in him, then you have slandered him [fabricated a false accusation].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى عَلَى ‏ ‏النَّجَاشِىِّ ‏ ‏فَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il ibn Ibrahim, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed over al-Najashi [the Negus, King of Abyssinia] and made four takbirs.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَمَّا حَضَرَ رَمَضَانُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَمَضَانُ شَهْرٌ مُبَارَكٌ افْتَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامَهُ تُفْتَحُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ وَيُغْلَقُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ الْجَحِيمِ ‏ ‏وَتُغَلُّ ‏ ‏فِيهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ فِيهِ لَيْلَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ مَنْ حُرِمَ خَيْرَهَا قَدْ حُرِمَ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Abu Qilaba — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said when Ramadan approached: 'Ramadan has come to you — a blessed month. Allah has made fasting it obligatory upon you. In it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are locked, and the devils are chained. In it there is a night that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَيُصَلِّي أَحَدُنَا فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَوَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Muhammad — that a man called out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'May one of us pray in a single garment?' He said: 'Does every one of you have two garments?'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَأَسْلَمُ ‏ ‏وَغِفَارٌ ‏ ‏وَشَيْءٌ مِنْ ‏ ‏مُزَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏وَجُهَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏أَوْ شَيْءٌ مِنْ ‏ ‏جُهَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏وَمُزَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏خَيْرٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏أَسَدٍ ‏ ‏وَغَطَفَانَ ‏ ‏وَهَوَازِنَ ‏ ‏وَتَمِيمٍ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Muhammad — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Aslam, Ghifar, and a portion of Muzayna and Juhayna — or a portion of Juhayna and Muzayna — are better with Allah' — he [the narrator] said: I think he said 'on the Day of Resurrection' — 'than [the tribes of] Asad, Ghatafan, Hawazin, and Tamim.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ لَسَاعَةً لَا يُوَافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ قَائِمٌ ‏ ‏يُصَلِّي يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ خَيْرًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ إِيَّاهُ ‏ ‏و قَالَ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ قُلْنَا يُقَلِّلُهَا يُزَهِّدُهَا ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Muhammad — that Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed Friday has an hour in which no Muslim servant stands in prayer asking Allah for good except that Allah grants it to him.' And he gestured with his hand — we said [he was indicating] he is showing it to be small/brief.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِمَّا تَفَاخَرُوا وَإِمَّا تَذَاكَرُوا الرِّجَالُ أَكْثَرُ أَمْ النِّسَاءُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَوَ لَمْ يَقُلْ ‏ ‏أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ أَوَّلَ ‏ ‏زُمْرَةٍ ‏ ‏تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى صُورَةِ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا عَلَى ‏ ‏أَضْوَإِ كَوْكَبٍ ‏ ‏دُرِّيٍّ ‏ ‏فِي السَّمَاءِ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ زَوْجَتَانِ ثِنْتَانِ يُرَى مُخُّ سَاقِهِمَا مِنْ وَرَاءِ اللَّحْمِ وَمَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ ‏ ‏أَعْزَبُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Muhammad — that they were either competing or discussing whether men are more numerous or women. Abu Hurayra said: 'Did Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) not say: The first group to enter Paradise will be in the form of the moon on the night of the full moon, and those who follow them will be like the most brilliantly shining star in the sky. For every man among them will be two wives, and the marrow of their legs can be seen through the flesh from behind it. And there will be no unmarried person in Paradise.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عِكْرِمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏نَهَى أَنْ يُشْرَبَ مِنْ ‏ ‏فِي ‏ ‏السِّقَاءِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏فَأُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا شَرِبَ مِنْ ‏ ‏فِي ‏ ‏السِّقَاءِ ‏ ‏فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from 'Ikrima — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin. Ayyub said: I was told that a man drank directly from the mouth of a waterskin and a snake came out.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَيُّوبُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عِكْرِمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا يَمْنَعَنَّ رَجُلٌ جَارَهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ خَشَبَتَهُ ‏ ‏أَوْ قَالَ خَشَبَةً ‏ ‏فِي جِدَارِهِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from 'Ikrima — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Let no man prevent his neighbor from placing his beam — or he said: his wooden plank — in his [the neighbor's] wall.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَطَاءٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا صَدَقَةَ إِلَّا عَنْ ‏ ‏ظَهْرِ غِنًى ‏ ‏وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ ‏ ‏تَعُولُ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd, from 'Abd al-Malik, from 'Ata' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no [valid] charity except from surplus wealth [zahr ghina]. The upper hand [giving hand] is better than the lower hand [receiving hand]. And begin with those you are responsible for [your dependants].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏أَتَى ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلُ ‏ ‏النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذِهِ ‏ ‏خَدِيجَةُ ‏ ‏قَدْ أَتَتْكَ بِإِنَاءٍ مَعَهَا فِيهِ ‏ ‏إِدَامٌ ‏ ‏أَوْ طَعَامٌ أَوْ شَرَابٌ ‏ ‏فَإِذَا هِيَ أَتَتْكَ ‏ ‏فَاقْرَأْ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامَ مِنْ رَبِّهَا وَمِنِّي وَبَشِّرْهَا بِبَيْتٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ ‏ ‏قَصَبٍ ‏ ‏لَا ‏ ‏صَخَبَ ‏ ‏فِيهِ وَلَا ‏ ‏نَصَبَ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that Jibril came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this is Khadija — she is coming to you with a vessel containing condiment [idam] or food or drink. When she comes to you, convey to her salam from her Lord and from me, and give her glad tidings of a house in Paradise made of qasab [hollow pearls], in which there is no clamor [sakhab] and no fatigue [nasab].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏انْتَدَبَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِمَنْ خَرَجَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ ‏ ‏لَا يَخْرُجُ إِلَّا جِهَادًا فِي سَبِيلِي وَإِيمَانًا بِي وَتَصْدِيقًا بِرَسُولِي فَهُوَ عَلَيَّ ضَامِنٌ أَنْ أُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ أُرْجِعَهُ إِلَى مَسْكَنِهِ الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْهُ ‏ ‏نَائِلًا ‏ ‏مَا نَالَ مِنْ أَجْرٍ أَوْ غَنِيمَةٍ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنْ ‏ ‏كَلْمٍ ‏ ‏يُكْلَمُ ‏ ‏فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا جَاءَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَهَيْئَتِهِ يَوْمَ ‏ ‏كُلِمَ ‏ ‏لَوْنُهُ لَوْنُ دَمٍ وَرِيحُهُ رِيحُ ‏ ‏مِسْكٍ ‏ ‏وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَا قَعَدْتُ ‏ ‏خِلَافَ ‏ ‏سَرِيَّةٍ ‏ ‏تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَبَدًا وَلَكِنِّي لَا أَجِدُ سَعَةً فَيَتْبَعُونِي وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ فَيَتَخَلَّفُونَ بَعْدِي وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنْ أَغْزُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَأُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أَغْزُوَ فَأُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أَغْزُوَ فَأُقْتَلَ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah (عز وجل) has undertaken [for His guarantee] for whoever goes out in His path — going out only for jihad in My path, belief in Me, and faith in My messenger — that He will admit him to Paradise, or return him to his dwelling from which he set out, having obtained whatever reward or booty he obtained. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, no wound inflicted in the way of Allah except that it will come on the Day of Resurrection as it was on the day it was inflicted — its color the color of blood and its scent the scent of musk. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, were it not that it would burden the Muslims, I would never stay behind any raiding party that goes out to fight in the way of Allah — ever. But I cannot find [sufficient provision for all of them] to follow me, nor is it bearable for them to stay behind after me. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, I would love to fight in the way of Allah and be killed, then fight and be killed, then fight and be killed.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Allah, forgive those who shave [their heads after Hajj or 'Umra]!' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, and those who trim [but do not shave]?' He said: 'O Allah, forgive those who shave!' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, and those who trim?' He said: 'O Allah, forgive those who shave!' They said: 'And those who trim?' He said: 'And those who trim.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا قَالَ ‏ ‏أَمَا وَأَبِيكَ لَتُنَبَّأَنَّهُ أَنْ تَصَدَّقَ وَأَنْتَ صَحِيحٌ شَحِيحٌ ‏ ‏تَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ وَتَأْمُلُ الْبَقَاءَ وَلَا تَمَهَّلْ حَتَّى ‏ { ‏إِذَا بَلَغَتْ الْحُلْقُومَ ‏} ‏قُلْتَ لِفُلَانٍ كَذَا وَلِفُلَانٍ كَذَا وَقَدْ كَانَ لِفُلَانٍ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which charity earns the greatest reward?' He said: 'By your father, you will certainly be told. [The greatest] is that you give charity while you are healthy yet miserly [with your wealth], fearing poverty and hoping to live long. And do not wait until [the soul reaches the throat] and then say: "Give so-and-so such-and-such, and give so-and-so such-and-such" — for it has already [effectively] become the property of so-and-so [i.e., your heirs have already inherited it].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَلَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَلَسَ ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلُ ‏ ‏إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَنَظَرَ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَإِذَا مَلَكٌ يَنْزِلُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلُ ‏ ‏إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَلَكَ مَا نَزَلَ مُنْذُ يَوْمِ خُلِقَ قَبْلَ السَّاعَةِ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ قَالَ يَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ ‏ ‏أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ قَالَ أَفَمَلِكًا نَبِيًّا يَجْعَلُكَ أَوْ عَبْدًا رَسُولًا قَالَ ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلُ ‏ ‏تَوَاضَعْ لِرَبِّكَ يَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ ‏ ‏قَالَ بَلْ عَبْدًا رَسُولًا ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — who said: I know it only from Abu Hurayra — that Jibril sat with the Prophet ﷺ and looked toward the sky. An angel descended, and Jibril said: 'This angel has never descended since the day he was created until this hour.' When he descended, he said: 'O Muhammad, your Lord has sent me to you — should He make you a king-prophet or a servant-messenger?' Jibril said: 'Humble yourself before your Lord, O Muhammad.' He said: 'Rather a servant-messenger.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُمَارَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ وَرَآهَا النَّاسُ آمَنَ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَذَلِكَ حِينَ ‏ { ‏لَا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ أَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِي إِيمَانِهَا خَيْرًا ‏}

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The Hour will not come until the sun rises from the west. When it rises and the people see it, all those on earth will believe. But that is the time when {a soul's faith will not benefit it if it had not believed before or had not earned good through its faith} [6:158]."'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُمَارَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِيَّاكُمْ ‏ ‏وَالْوِصَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ ‏ ‏تُوَاصِلُ ‏ ‏يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلِي إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنْ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said — saying it three times: 'Beware of al-wisal [continuous fasting without breaking at night]!' They said: 'But you yourself practice wisal, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'You are not like me in that — I spend the night with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink. So take on of deeds only what you are capable of.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُمَارَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ سَأَلَ النَّاسَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ تَكَثُّرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَسْأَلُ جَمْرًا فَلْيَسْتَقِلَّ مِنْهُ أَوْ لِيَسْتَكْثِرْ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever begs people for their wealth merely to accumulate more — he is [in effect] asking for coals [of fire]. So let him take little of it or let him take much [it makes no difference — it all becomes punishment].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُمَارَةُ ‏ ‏وَجَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا كَبَّرَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ سَكَتَ بَيْنَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي أَرَأَيْتَ إِسْكَاتَكَ بَيْنَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَالْقِرَاءَةِ أَخْبِرْنِي مَا هُوَ قَالَ أَقُولُ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ نَقِّنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ كَالثَّوْبِ الْأَبْيَضِ مِنْ الدَّنَسِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏كَمَا ‏ ‏يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ بِالثَّلْجِ وَالْمَاءِ وَالْبَرَدِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏كُلُّهَا عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ‏ ‏إِلَّا هَذَا عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي صَالِحٍ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara — and from Jarir, also from 'Umara — from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he made the opening takbir in prayer, would pause between the takbir and the recitation. I [Abu Hurayra] said: 'May my father and mother be your ransom — tell me about this pause between the takbir and the recitation. What do you say?' He said: 'I say: "Allahumma ba'id bayni wa bayna khatayaya kama ba'adta bayna al-mashriqi wa al-maghrib. Allahumma naqqini min khatayaya kama al-thawb al-abyad min al-danas" — Jarir [adds]: "kama yunaqqqa al-thawb" — "Allahumma ighsilni min khatayaya bil-thalji wal-ma'i wal-barad."' [O Allah, distance me from my sins as You have distanced the East from the West. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of filth. It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The first group to enter Paradise will be in the form of the moon on a full-moon night. Then those who follow them will be like the most brilliantly shining star in the sky. They will not urinate, defecate, spit, or blow their noses. Their combs are of gold, their perspiration is musk, their incense burners burn aloe wood [al-aluwwa], their spouses are the wide-eyed houris [hur al-'in], their natures are those of a single man [no conflict among them], in the form of their father Adam, at a height of sixty cubits.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — who said: I entered with Abu Hurayra into the house of Marwan ibn al-Hakam while it was being built. He saw images [tasawir] in it and said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Allah (عز وجل) says: \"Who is more unjust than one who sets out to create a creation like My creation? Let them create a particle [dharra], or let them create a grain, or let them create a barleycorn.\""' Then he called for wudu water and performed wudu, washing his forearms past the elbows; and when he washed his feet, he went past the ankles to the calves. I said: 'What is this?' He said: 'This is the reach [mablaghu] of the adornment [hulya — the light of wudu on the body on the Day of Resurrection].'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Umara, from Abu Zur'a — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Two words that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful: Subhan Allah wa bi-hamdihi, Subhan Allah al-'Azim.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from 'Asim ibn Kulaib, from his father — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever sees me in a dream has truly seen me — for Satan cannot take my form.' Ibn Fudayl said on another occasion: '...cannot appear in my likeness.' 'For the true, righteous dream of a believing servant is one part of seventy parts of prophethood.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from al-A'mash, from a man, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The imam is a guarantor [responsible for the prayer of the congregation], and the mu'adhdhin is a trustee. O Allah, guide the imams aright and forgive the mu'adhdhins.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Abu Salama — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking [Allah's] reward [ihtisaban], his past sins are forgiven.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from his father, from Abu Hazim — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt — measure for measure and weight for weight. Whoever adds or causes another to add has engaged in riba — except when the types differ [different commodities may be exchanged without equal quantity].'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed every prayer has a beginning and an end. The beginning of Dhuhr time is when the sun declines [from its zenith], and its end is when 'Asr time enters. The beginning of 'Asr time is when its time enters, and its end is when the sun turns yellow. The beginning of Maghrib time is when the sun sets, and its end is when the horizon [glow] disappears. The beginning of 'Isha al-Akhira time is when the horizon disappears, and its end is when midnight comes. The beginning of Fajr time is when dawn breaks, and its end is when the sun rises.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra and Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from Dirar [Abu Sinan], from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed Allah says: "Fasting is for Me and I reward it. The fasting person has two joys: when he breaks his fast he rejoices, and when he meets Allah and He rewards him, he rejoices." By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, the change in the mouth odor of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Ma'mar, from Ibn Shihab [al-Zuhri], from Ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about a mouse that fell into clarified butter [samn] and died. He said: 'If it [the butter] is solid, take it [the mouse] and what is around it, then eat what remains. If it is liquid, do not eat it.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Ma'mar, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Damdam — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded killing the two black ones [al-aswadayn] during prayer. [Ma'mar said: I asked Yahya: What does he mean by al-aswadayn? He said: The snake and the scorpion.]

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from Muhammad ibn Ziyad — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you puts on sandals, let him start with the right. And when he takes them off, let him start with the left.' And he said: 'Wear them both [together]' [i.e., do not walk with one sandal on and one off — either wear both or remove both].

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Yunus, from al-Hasan — that Abu Hurayra said: 'My close friend [the Prophet ﷺ] advised me with three things: fasting three days from every month, witr prayer before sleeping, and bathing [ghusl] on Friday.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Every child is born upon the fitra [innate natural disposition]. Then his parents make him Jewish, Christian, or Zoroastrian — just as an animal gives birth to a whole offspring. Do you find any among the newborn with a [mutilated, cut] nose [ja'da'] [i.e., born with a defect that was inflicted]?' [All animals are born whole — the fitra likewise is intact at birth.]

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ إِلَّا ‏ ‏نَخَسَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ ‏ ‏فَيَسْتَهِلُّ صَارِخًا مِنْ ‏ ‏نَخْسَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ ‏ ‏إِلَّا ‏ ‏ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ ‏ ‏وَأُمَّهُ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ ‏ { ‏إِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ‏}

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no child born except that Satan pokes it [nakhasahu]. So it cries out from the poke of Satan — except Ibn Maryam [Jesus (عليه السلام)] and his mother.' Then Abu Hurayra said: 'Read if you wish: {I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from the accursed Satan} [3:36].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏رُؤْيَا الْمُؤْمِنِ جُزْءٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءًا مِنْ النُّبُوَّةِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — from the Prophet ﷺ: 'The dream of the believer is one part of forty-six parts of prophethood.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِذَا هَلَكَ ‏ ‏كِسْرَى ‏ ‏فَلَا ‏ ‏كِسْرَى ‏ ‏بَعْدَهُ وَإِذَا هَلَكَ ‏ ‏قَيْصَرُ ‏ ‏فَلَا ‏ ‏قَيْصَرَ ‏ ‏بَعْدَهُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ لَتُنْفِقُنَّ كُنُوزَهُمَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'When Kisra [Khosrow, King of Persia] perishes, there will be no Kisra after him. And when Caesar [Qaysar] perishes, there will be no Caesar after him. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, you will certainly spend their treasures in the way of Allah.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏تَفْضُلُ الصَّلَاةُ فِي الْجَمِيعِ عَلَى صَلَاةِ الرَّجُلِ وَحْدَهُ خَمْسًا وَعِشْرِينَ وَيَجْتَمِعُ مَلَائِكَةُ اللَّيْلِ وَمَلَائِكَةُ النَّهَارِ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ يَقُولُ ‏ ‏أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ ‏ { ‏وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا ‏}

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Prayer in congregation is superior to the prayer of a man alone by twenty-five [degrees]. And the angels of the night and the angels of the day gather at the Fajr prayer.' Then Abu Hurayra added: 'Read if you wish: {and the recitation of Fajr — indeed the recitation of Fajr is witnessed} [17:78].'
