English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd, from 'Abd al-Malik, from 'Ata' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no [valid] charity except from surplus wealth [zahr ghina]. The upper hand [giving hand] is better than the lower hand [receiving hand]. And begin with those you are responsible for [your dependants].'
