English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-A'la, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Every child is born upon the fitra [innate natural disposition]. Then his parents make him Jewish, Christian, or Zoroastrian — just as an animal gives birth to a whole offspring. Do you find any among the newborn with a [mutilated, cut] nose [ja'da'] [i.e., born with a defect that was inflicted]?' [All animals are born whole — the fitra likewise is intact at birth.]
