English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya and Ya'la, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked: 'How much of the month has passed?' They said: 'Twenty-two [days] have passed and eight remain.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No — twenty-two days have passed and seven remain. Seek it [Laylat al-Qadr] tonight.' Ya'la added in his version: 'The month [can be] twenty-nine [days].' [Meaning: seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last seven nights if the month is twenty-nine days.]
