Hadith #285

حَدَّثَنِي هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي بُكَيْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص
َلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْثٍ فَقَالَ إِنْ وَجَدْتُمْ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا لِرَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَأَحْرِقُوهُمَا بِالنَّارِ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَرَدْنَا الْخُرُوجَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَمَرْتُكُمْ أَنْ تُحْرِقُوا فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا بِالنَّارِ وَإِنَّ النَّارَ لَا يُعَذِّبُ بِهَا إِلَّا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتُمُوهُمَا فَاقْتُلُوهُمَا

English Translation
Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to me, Layth — meaning Ibn Sa'd — narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj narrated to me, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us on an expedition and said: 'If you find so-and-so and so-and-so, burn them with fire.' Then when we were about to depart, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I had ordered you to burn so-and-so and so-and-so, but indeed none punishes with fire except Allah. So if you find them, kill them.'
