Hadith #354
Arabic Text
وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نُودِيَ بِالصَّلَاةِ أَدْبَرَ الشَّيْطَانُ وَلَهُ ضُرَاطٌ حَتَّى لَا يَسْمَعَ التَّأْذِينَ فَإِذَا قُضِيَ التَّأْذِينُ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّى إِذَا ثُوِّبَ بِهَا أَدْبَرَ حَتَّى إِذَا قُضِيَ التَّثْوِيبُ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّى يَخْطِرَ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَنَفْسِهِ فَيَقُولَ لَهُ اذْكُرْ كَذَا اذْكُرْ كَذَا لِمَا لَمْ يَكُنْ يُذْكَرُ مِنْ قَبْلُ حَتَّى يَظَلَّ الرَّجُلُ إِنْ يَدْرِي كَيْفَ صَلَّى
English Translation
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When the call to prayer is made, Shaytan turns and flees, passing wind loudly so that he cannot hear the adhan. When the adhan is completed, he comes back. When the iqamah is pronounced, he turns and flees again. When the iqamah is completed, he returns to whisper to a person between him and his soul, saying: Remember this, remember that — things he had not been thinking of — until the man does not know how many units he has prayed.'
